What I thought I knew before I took my first class with DeepFeet… Part Two
After my big adventure to the big ditch I found my self home and longing for more knowledge. Not knowing where to begin I unfolded my massage table, lowered it as low as I could and told my roommate to lay face down.
I then stood up on the table, using the ceiling and my fingertips for balance I began to do compressions through the clothes. I eventually felt comfortable to use all of my weight and use two feet.
I practiced like this for months, using the ceiling and walls with brave clients. The spa I then worked at had fingerprints on the ceilings and walls. Clients began to ask for me by saying “the girl who crawls on you.”
This goofy practice of mine went on for 2 years. I was a full time river guide and found it challenging to commit to the price of class and the time just yet.
Finally in the fall of 2019 I bought a ticket to Thailand so that I could spend a month receiving and learning Thai massage. That was only halted by another back country adventure. 😬
I ended up loosing that ticket and the money due to Covid. However, I found myself staying in one place (Colorado) for once instead of the transient river life.
Spring of 2020 I had my first set of bars installed. They were almost perfect except they were metal not wood. Metal is slippery I would come to find out.
August of 2020 I signed up for my first basics class in Denver, CO. My plan was to sleep in the back of my truck that had a topper on it for the 3 days and then head home. Haha it worked!
The first day of class i remember a light going off in my brain and i thought this is exactly my path so I signed up for the master program (5 classes in a year).
I excelled in those 3 days!
What I found the MOST humbly though was this:
1. There are more contradictions than I had thought about from deep gravity assisted massage. I was often NOT properly warming up the tissue or going too deep.
2. I had NO IDEA how to use oil or creams correctly.
3. Draping?! How on earth do I drape for this?! Remember I had been working over the clothes.
4. Seated position and how to flex my ankles and toes…
5. Body mechanics?! Yikes!
