So, what does your nervous system have in common with a 70s muscle car?
I was talking with a client recently about how a healthy nervous system is designed to ramp up when it's necessary (think fight or flight), and then downshift smoothly once the threat has passed.
The issue is that most of our nervous systems are like me at age 16 driving my dad's 1970s GTO to school one day. I would grind the gears, clunkily trying to get the hang of the delicate clutch, and killed it right in front of the school (cue embarrassed Michelle). There was no smooth ramp up, skillful acceleration, and then easeful deceleration. I didn't have the time and built-up skills to manage this beast of a car.
With strategic sequencing, we can train our nervous systems to "drive" better--having a better handle on rising to the occasion of life's natural stressful events, but then also being able to transition out of that elevated state more easily=a flexible nervous system.
This is the work I support folks with in my one-on-one coaching practice. If you'd like to get the support to make this happen, or are curious what this might be like for you specifically, I'd love to offer a no-cost 30-minute strategy session.
