In writing an obituary for your loved one, you have the opportunity to serve your immediate family, society as a whole, and future generations. In effect, you are recording history on an individual scale. It's a humbling yet inspiring thought.

How you document your loved one's life story is up to you. With that said, we recommend that in addition to the basic facts of a death notice, the obituary could also include these details:

-Parents' names
-Information about the spouse and children
-Church affiliations
-Job or career information
-Personal and professional accomplishments
-Personal character and interests
-Influence on his or her community

Sit back and think about the memories you could share to shed some light on your loved one's character and personal interests. Bring factual details into play whenever you can but help the reader clearly see who your loved one was, how they lived, and what they loved. The more rich in detail, the more memorable the obituary becomes.

Once cremation is chosen, the person who is the legally identified or appointed next-of-kin will sign authorization documents.

The remains can be transported from the place of death to the crematory and the cremation process can take place. However, there are some additional things you may wish to consider, such as:

- Is there a uniform or special set of clothes you would like your loved one to wear at the time of cremation? Your funeral director can advise you as to your best options regarding jewelry or other valuable personal items.

- Are there any keepsake items you'd like to include? We sometimes suggest family members write cards, notes, or letters to their deceased loved one and place them in the cremation casket.

- Would you like anyone to be present for your loved one's cremation? Because we know how healing it can be, we welcome the opportunity to bring interested family or friends into the crematory. Please discuss your desire to participate with your funeral director.

- What will you keep the cremated remains or ashes in after the cremation? We offer a selection of urns and keepsake urns to help memorialize your loved one after services and cremation have taken place.
