Alluma Our Mission
Promote Wellbeing, Instill Hope. Alluma is an inclusive, nonprofit organization based in Crookston, Minnesota. We are open to everyone, anytime.

Alluma takes an uncommon community-based approach, integrating mental health and substance use care into overall wellbeing. Rooted in research and focused on relationships, we go above and beyond to build capacity in individuals and help clients get connected. Our story began in 1962 with a vision of building a community-based care system to ensure high-quality access to mental health services in the region. For nearly 60 years, we've provided evidence-based, client-focused care in northwestern Minnesota. Clients, teammates, caregivers, friends and families, and allies. You matter to Alluma, and we're here to help.

Please join us in celebrating Aaron Muir on 10 years with Alluma. As a Mental Health Professional, Aaron has helped pave the way for clinical services with Alluma in Thief River Falls schools and has supported children, adolescents, and families in reaching their goals. He plays an important role in mentoring and supporting growing clinicians also as a supervisor on the Youth team. Aaron is dependable, brings energy and a strong knowledge base to his work, and is a trusted supervisor with a growth mindset. His willingness to take on new challenges and support many aspects of our work continues to strengthen our mission. Thank you, Aaron, for all you do!

Small moments of care can make a difference — especially during the winter months.

Today’s reminder: you don’t need to do everything at once. Even one small step toward rest, connection, or support matters.

You’re not alone. Support is available when you need it.

Our Story

Northwestern Mental Health Center is a private, non-profit organization established in 1962. We are a certified community mental health center that serves individuals, children and families in six northwestern Minnesota counties including Kittson, Mahnomen, Marshall, Norman, Polk and Red Lake. Our organization provides a full range of mental health and substance use disorder services.

In January 2017, Northwestern Mental Health Center was designated as one of six Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics in Minnesota. Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics(CCBHCs) were created through The Excellence in Mental Health Act demonstration program to expand Americans’ access to mental health and addiction care in community-based settings. The federal demonstration project is measuring how well an integrated community clinic model of care can improve service quality and accessibility. CCBHCs take a person-centered approach that looks at the whole health (physical health, mental health and social service needs) of the individual. They provide a comprehensive set of services that promote recovery, wellness and trauma-informed care. CCBHCs serve adults, adolescents and children, as well as placing a special emphasis on active and veteran military care.

NWMHC has more than 150 staff members who represent psychiatrists, psychologists, mental health professionals, mental health practitioners, peer recovery specialists and administrative professionals. Northwestern Mental Health Center works with a team of professionals throughout the community to assure that those seeking assistance receive the best possible options for their care, recovery and wellness.
