HELP!!!!! Due to our location we encounter a few homeless people each month. We are currently at our wits end with the Welcome House. We have supported the residents of this shelter and feel it only right to expose what the Director, Stacey, who claims she is a volunteer is doing.
She has evicted several people. Some are our clients; others we felt obligated to help because they were being wronged so badly by this shelter. Bottom line. I'm posting today to expose the behavior at this shelter. Everyone deserves dignity. Below is a short list of things that Ive heard from residents there. The list is so long I cant put all the complaints.
They have to donate each month- families $300.00; singles 250.00. They must contribute all or most of their foodstamps. They are not allowed to eat after 6 and the undignified list goes on and on. They eat peanut butter and turkey sandwiches everyday. At first I sided with the shelter, rules are rules afterall but some things here are really wrong. How are these people going to overcome homelessness when so much of their tiny resources must go towards "donations".
Now I know the good people of my hometown, Crowley, are not donating to this facility to have them treat people this way.
Please help us to expose these issues so they can be corrected and maybe, just maybe the Welcome House can create a reputation for itself of being kind and compassionate to those individuals who are down on their luck.

Everytime I get on FB it says " Whats on your mind?" I usually dont have much to say but today(everyday) Mental Health is on my mind. It is important that the government support the funding for Mental Health Services but it is more important that we be brave and ask for help or offer help to the person (child or adult) that you see dealing with Mental Health or Behavioral Health issues. Its not somebody elses problem. Its all of our problems. Ask yourself this, If you see someone sitting on a train track with the train coming will you try to save them or mind your business?
We are here to help.

How often do you sit at home and wish someone would ring you and suggest, well anything rather than these 4 walls? How many of you have had a night out planned, or arranged coffee with friends and suddenly "these 4 walls" seem the only safe haven because it's the only place you don't have to pretend you are ok, so you cancel. Or when you are invited out you tell them how terribly sorry you are but you're already booked up that weekend, when you are actually just really busy holding it together in your safe box. And so the first problem starts, all by itself. People stop asking you and the isolation that at first wasn't true becomes your only truth.

Please don't give up on your friends. Ring them, go round, even when they don't want you to. Because they really do they just don't know how to say it.

Everyone says: "If you need anything, don't hesitate. I'll be there for you ".

I'm going to make a bet, without being pessimistic, that out of my Facebook friends that less than 5 will take the the time to post on their wall to help raise awareness of and for those who have mental health difficulties. You just have to copy it from my wall and paste it to yours (hold down on my post and you will be given the option to copy... then go to your status and hold down to paste).

Who will be my 5 I wonder?
