The What’s, How’s, and Why’s of EAP

Starting therapy can be the hardest step.
Questions, uncertainty, and fear of judgment are common.

In equine-assisted psychotherapy, horses respond without judgment.
They meet us as we are, not as we think we should be.

And so, to start, all that is necessary is to show up and be, and the horses will meet you there.

While the horses enjoyed a well-earned break, our team stayed busy preparing for the spring session.

Our Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) teams came together to refine skill sets and ensure sessions are facilitated using best practices. Instructors also collaborated on teaching strategies to better support participants with a wide range of learning needs to support development.

We’re incredibly grateful for a dedicated, collaborative staff that continually works to enhance the quality of services at MTR.

Points if you peep Ruth in on the action 🤣.

Terminology Tuesday with Cowboy Kevin 🤠🌾

This week, Cowboy Kevin is helping us understand an important part of horse care: forage!

Forage is the foundation of a horse’s diet. It includes grasses and hays that keep a horse’s digestive system healthy and functioning the way nature intended.

Two common types you might hear about are Timothy hay and Alfalfa hay.

🌾 Timothy Hay – A grass hay that is high in fiber and lower in calories and protein. It’s a great everyday forage for many horses and helps support healthy digestion.

🌿 Alfalfa Hay – A legume hay that is richer in protein, calories, and calcium. It’s often fed to horses that need extra nutrition, such as young, growing horses, seniors, or those in heavier work.

At MTR, we carefully balance the type and amount of forage each horse receives to support their health, comfort, and ability to serve our participants.

Cowboy Kevin reminds us: Happy horses start with good hay!

Stay tuned for more Terminology Tuesday tips from Cowboy Kevin! 🤠🐴
