Phenomenal. 👏 Thank you to Cori and Mark, and to all of the other foster parents that step in and step up.

SOMEONE YOU SHOULD KNOW ❤️ Cori Salchert — a former bereavement nurse from Sheboygan — fosters and adopts kids with terminal illnesses whose parents cannot or will not take care of them due to their conditions 🥰

Cori and her husband Mark, who have eight biological children, first adopted their daughter Emmalyn in 2013. Emmalyn was born without the right or left hemisphere of her brain. She was given a grim prognosis by doctors, but the Salcherts cared for her all 50 days of her life.

Shortly after, the family adopted another terminally ill baby, 20-month-old Charlie, and fostered five more babies with medical needs.

“I cannot change the fact that they’re going to die, but I can make sure they don’t have to die alone,” Cori says. “None of this is easy, but it’s so worthwhile.”
