I know this beautician single mom who moved her mother here from Jamaica to help her as she enrolled in nursing school because her baby, she learnt, is going to always need a nurse to care for her. Another mom decided to uproot her entire life and live at the other end of the country for better security for her kids. Another who works nights to be available during the day for therapies. Another who works full time and yet manages to drive 5days /week to different places for services for her daughter, asking everyday - is there anything more I should do. Another who has opened her heart wider to include care for any mom who is stepping into this special needs world for the first time. Another who switched careers to learn what it will take to be the mom she needs to be for her son. Another who give back to this special needs community by forming support groups. And another and another and another... learning to cook differently, talk differently, dream differently, share differently. There is so much strength in a special need parent and hardly a road map as to what is out there, what should be out there and what needs to be out there. These moms (and dads) are driven with nothing but fierce love for their children, paving their way forward. As families send kids back out to school (and college) this year, I just want to say - bravo, you inspire me, daily. - Ami

Once more~ Because, it can never be said too many times! A basic, foundational principle of ALL of the Autism Level UP!'s energy tools! 🤓🤓

Well regulated equals your energy matches the energy needed to actively engage in an activity and environment. Text in the box, in lower right corner reads Well regulated does not equal calm. So much is going on these days, it is easy to feel disoriented in time. After this pause of 3 months, Acorn reopened on June 15th for face to face OT in clinic. It has been so, so wonderful to see all the kids smiling outside of the screen! And great to see the enthusiasm they feel about returning to some form of new normal of their routine, masks and all. Kids continue to surprise me with their adaptability and flexibility when us adults are struggling with all this constant change.
Teletherapy has been great for those that were able to take advantage of it and will continue to be offered to everyone who prefers that over in person visits. Be assured, Acorn is taking every single precaution and disinfecting routine as outlined by CDC and more. We will do what we need to for safety of everyone and ofcourse for those happy smiles! Welcome back!

Hello Acorn families. Because of statewide 'shelter in place' directive, all face to face therapy is discontinued for next 3 weeks. While OT, PT, SW and ST fall in essential work category and medically necessary, it is very difficult to follow social distancing and eliminate risk of sharing this virus with little kids. I am able to continue therapy via telehealth and I encourage all of you to take advantage of this service so we can pitch in to minimize disruption in care plans for our kids. These are challenging times but I'm confident we will all reach the other end of this crisis with new understanding of ourselves, our capacities and a richer sense of community. Be safe and be healthy.
