Carol M. Holland died on Thursday, June 17, 2021, in Hernando, Florida.
She was born on April 17, 1945, in Worcester, Massachusetts, the youngest of four children by the late Roland G. and Mary (Roy) Anderson. She attended Winslow Street and Sever Street grammar schools, New Woodland Preparatory and South High School class of 1963. She held associate’s and bachelor’s degrees in business and accounting from Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College and Vermont’s Johnson State College, respectively. On June 26, 1965, she married George W. Holland in Worcester.
Her early decades of married life were as a US Navy spouse requiring frequent relocations along with an exciting life style. Duty stations included Key West, Florida, California, Pennsylvania, Washington State, Georgia, Rhode Island, Mississippi, Connecticut, and abroad in Nea Makri, Greece, and Comiso, Sicily. As conditions allowed, she continued her education and also found employment in bookkeeping, banking and with the Internal Revenue Service. All the while Carol was involved in Navy volunteer work as she was raising her two sons, Steven and Matthew.
In the late 1980s following Navy life, the family relocated to West Fairlee, Vermont, where Carol completed her baccalaureate degree and was employed until her retirement in accounting for Wagner Forest Management, a North American timber investment and harvesting firm. Carol enjoyed reading, walking and observing nature, especially birds. Family life included their four Labrador retrievers, a domineering cat and two parakeets. She was an accomplished cook gained from her experiences living throughout the US and in the Mediterranean region. She was also a dedicated follower of Tai Chi. She loved living close to her granddaughter Jenna Lynn and enjoyed their daily visits and conversations. Playing the piano together, playing cards, sharing meals and participating in and watching Jenna’s young life evolve gave her immense joy.
Above all else, love for her family was immeasurable and a great source of pride. Carol is survived by her son Steven, daughter-in-law Kristin and much-loved granddaughter Jenna Lynn; son Matthew, partner Anna and her twin daughters, Lila and April; older sister Rose Johnson (the glue of the family) plus many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her brothers, Roland and Ronald. At her request, no formal services are to be held.
