First swarm of the season. Just got this video from a friend of mine of a swarm trap. I have on his property in Fauquier county Va.

I finally opened up that swarm trap that the European hornets decided to move into. I closed it off and let it sit for a week in the driveway to make sure they were all dead. This way I didn’t relocate them to my home. I guess they were in there for a few weeks as they completely filled the open section below the frames.

I seen some activity at the entrance of one of my swarm traps so I figured I would swing by tonight and pick it up. Well needless to say they weren’t honeybees.🤦‍♂️

Well at least I have that going for me.

In a breakthrough that could reshape cancer treatment, scientists have discovered that honeybee venom can destroy 100% of aggressive breast cancer cells in less than 60 minutes. The key lies in a powerful compound called melittin, found in honeybee venom but not in bumblebee venom.

Researchers tested the venom on various breast cancer cell types in lab dishes and found that melittin acts like a precision-guided weapon. It punches holes in cancer cell membranes, causing the cells to die quickly. What’s even more promising is that melittin leaves healthy cells largely untouched, suggesting it could be used for treatments with fewer side effects than chemotherapy or radiation.

Melittin proved especially effective against triple-negative breast cancer and HER2-enriched breast cancer, two of the most difficult types to treat. This discovery opens new doors to developing safer, more targeted cancer therapies using natural compounds.

Scientists are now working to harness melittin’s cancer-fighting power in a controlled way, possibly through nanoparticles or synthetic versions that could be used in future medications. While more research is needed, this natural molecule from bees offers a powerful new weapon in the fight against cancer.

Have I told everyone how much I love my tractor. Lol. The bees quickly found me as soon as I opened the garage door and started loading these supers on the pallet. The tractor made quick work of moving them to an area where they can clean them up in peace and hopefully limited the number of stragglers in the driveway.

Honey harvest 2025. The plastic and cardboard have saved me more than a few times during the extraction process. No matter how careful you will always dribble some honey on the floor after processing so many boxes.

Drove four hours to pick up three drums of pro sweet bee feed and just found out that the Wilkes-Barre location will be closed for good after this Saturday. 😢

Free bees are good bees. Even if they don’t play nice and decide to hang out on the bottom of the swarm trap.

If you haven’t added supers you best check your hives. Seems everything in my area decided to bloom at once. Just noticed that my tulip poplars have bloomed 2 weeks earlier than normal.
