UPDATE: Real feelings pre-surgery… scared AF. I made a panic call to my BFF when it hit me just how scared I actually was minutes before they brought me into the operating room.
After some gentle reassurance and a good cry allowing those feelings move through me, I landed on the mantra, “My body is resilient.” This reminded me that whatever happens, my body is strong and capable of healing.
The post-op report showed the fibroid was 9 cm. One of my biggest fears was, what if they find a mess of other stuff going on in there when they look inside? I had specifically asked the surgeon to check for endo because there is a high rate of comorbidity, and SILENT ENDO is more common than we know! Turns out, a lesion was in fact found on my left uterosacral ligament, and removed.
The uterosacral ligament is the most common location for deep infiltrating endometriosis (a specific type of endometriosis). The endometrial cells are found well below the tissue that lines the pelvic cavity (peritoneum).
Of course, many new questions come to mind, one of the most important being, how do we prevent and monitor new growths? For now, I’m free of this large fibroid and that feels like a win.
