Effective Monday, August 16, 2021 the Allegany County Library System will require facemasks to be worn by all library visitors over the age of two (2).

The Library Board of Trustees voted on Tuesday to reinstate the mask requirement in ACLS libraries after considering the following:

Allegany County has reached a community transmission level of "high" as of August 11, 2021 (CDC COVID Data Tracker - https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/ -view) People in areas with a level of “substantial” or “high” community transmission rates are urged to wear masks in public indoor settings, regardless of vaccination status.

The steep increases in local 7 day average case rates in the last 30 days,

The relatively low percentage of vaccinated community members in Allegany County,

The increase of children visiting the libraries once again that are not yet eligible for vaccination.

We thank you for your patience during our reopening phases and hope that the community will recognize that the potential inconvenience of wearing a mask today will prevent more limits to library access and usage in the future.

Libraries are open Monday - Thursday 11 AM to 6 PM and
Frostburg and South Cumberland Libraries Saturdays 11 AM to 5 PM.

Allegany County Public Schools is in need of a school bus driver for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year. Individuals who are interested and are NOT with a contractor should contact the Transportation Department at 301-729-3773. The route is located in the Frostburg area, pays $17 per hour, and is approximately 4.5 hours per day. A Commercial Drivers License is required, but ACPS will train those who do not have one.

Several contractors are also in need of full-time drivers. For more information, contact the Transportation Department.
