Independence at home starts with access.

This stair-lift installation, completed by Total Mobility Services, is helping one individual safely reach his second-floor bedroom and bathroom again—something that had become difficult and unsafe on his own.

Funded through our AT/IL Program and Golf Tournament Fundraising efforts, this modification allows him to remain independent in the home he loves.

Projects like this are exactly why our golf tournament matters. Every dollar raised goes directly toward creating safer, more accessible homes for individuals in our community.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support this mission. 💙

A barrier-free shower can change everything.

This project, completed with AT/IL funds and support from our Golf Tournament Fundraiser, provided a safe solution for an individual who could no longer safely step in and out of her bathtub after multiple falls.

With expert work by JL Wolford Contracting Inc., she now has a beautiful, functional, and safe shower—complete with grab bars for added stability and peace of mind.

"I am so thankful I became familiar with your organization. You have provided me with a new safe alternative to my bathtub. I have fallen and had difficulty getting out of my tub on a regular basis! Your intervention has provided me with a safe and functional bathing/shower area. The grab bars are such a relief. Also, it is very beautiful. Wolford Construction did a fabulous job on the installation. I appreciate what your company has done for me. Being disabled, its not easy getting help. Thank you!! Thank you!!"

This is why our Golf Tournament matters. Every dollar raised helps create safer homes and supports independence for individuals in our community.

⛳ Thank you to everyone who makes this work possible.

Another meaningful project completed—made possible through AT/IL funds and the generous support from our Golf Tournament Fundraiser ⛳

These projects are more than just home modifications—they’re life-changing improvements that help individuals remain safe, independent, and comfortable in their own homes.

Every swing taken at our golf tournament directly contributes to making this kind of impact. Because of that support, we’re able to continue providing essential modifications that truly make a difference.

Thank you to everyone who participates, donates, and believes in this mission. 💙

Special thanks to JL Wolford Contracting Inc for completing this work!

In the autism community, language matters—and you may see two common approaches:

Identity-first language (“autistic person”) - Autistic” describes a person’s identity
Puts the focus on accepting autism as part of the person - Many autistic people prefer this

Person-first language (“person with autism”) - “Autism” describes a condition someone has
The person is separate from the diagnosis. Some people prefer this

So, which is right?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Preferences vary widely—many autistic individuals favor identity-first language, while others prefer person-first. The most respectful approach is to listen and follow each person’s lead.

We were honored to spend time in Annapolis connecting with Mike McKay to talk about the work being done by Resources for Independence and the importance of supporting individuals with disabilities across our region.

Advocacy and collaboration with our state leaders are essential to ensuring people with disabilities have access to the resources, opportunities, and independence they deserve. We appreciate Senator McKay taking the time to meet with us and learn more about the impact of our programs in Allegany County and beyond.

Had an amazing time speaking at the Physical Therapy Assistant Program at ACM the other day!

We talked all about Spinal Cord Injuries and Disability Awareness—so important for future PTs to understand and advocate for their patients.

Feeling grateful for the opportunity to share, educate, and inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals! 🙌
