Today is International Children’s Book Day 📖

Reading with your child is one of the simplest ways to support their brain, language, and emotional development.

Even just 10 minutes a day can:
• Build vocabulary
• Strengthen parent-child bonding
• Improve attention and imagination
• Set the foundation for lifelong learning

And here’s the best part… it doesn’t have to be perfect.
Silly voices, repeated pages, and wiggly toddlers all count

Start early. Read often. Make it fun.

Looking for a place to start?
Try classics like Goodnight Moon, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, or Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?.

💬 What’s your child’s favorite book right now?

New Office Policy Announcement

All toddlers must now arrive to appointments fully dressed as their favorite dinosaur

Bonus points for roaring in the waiting room.

…April Fools!
But honestly, we wouldn’t mind this one 😄

Today is Día del Taco 🌮

Tacos aren’t just food in Mexico… they are part of daily life and culture.

From street vendors to family tables, tacos are:

Affordable
Customizable
Full of regional flavors

Each region has its own specialty:

Tacos al pastor (marinated pork, pineapple 🍍)
Carnitas (slow-cooked pork)
Barbacoa (tender, slow-roasted meat)
Tinga (shredded chicken with smoky sauce)From street tacos in Mexico to your kitchen table, tacos bring families together.

Tonight’s plan? DIY taco night ✔️

Summer is 8½ weeks away… and yes, this is your friendly nudge 😄

Have you thought about your child’s summer plan yet?

Because if you don’t plan it… screens will.
The goal isn’t zero screen time.
It’s intentional time.

Here’s a simple framework to keep days balanced:
☀️ 1 Outdoor activity daily
Bike ride, park, water play, even a walk counts
📚 1 “brain boost” activity
Reading, puzzles, summer workbook, or creative play
👫 1 social or family connection
Playdate, camp, or just helping you cook dinner
🎨 1 boredom-friendly block
Yes… boredom is where creativity lives
📱 Then screens fit in last, not first

You don’t need a packed schedule.

You just need a loose plan so summer doesn’t turn into 8 weeks of “what should I watch?”
If you want, I can share a simple weekly summer template you can reuse all season.

This Saturday is Earth Hour 🌍

From 8:30 to 9:30 PM, families around the world turn off their lights to support our planet.

It’s a simple way to teach kids something powerful:
Small actions matter

Make it fun for your family:
• Have a candlelit dinner
• Go outside and look at the stars
• Play a board game with no screens
• Talk about ways to help the Earth

Kids learn what we model.
Even one hour can spark a lifetime of habits.

Will your family be joining?

Pollen is already rising in Georgia 🌼
And a lot of what looks like a “cold” right now is actually allergies.

Here’s how to tell the difference

Allergies:
• Clear runny nose
• Sneezing
• Itchy or watery eyes
• No fever
• Symptoms linger for weeks

Cold:
• Fever (sometimes)
• Thicker mucus
• Cough
• Feeling tired
• Usually improves in 7 to 10 days

If your child seems fine but just can’t stop sneezing… think allergies.

Not sure which one it is?
We’re happy to help you sort it out.

Sometimes mental health struggles in kids look like:

• Irritability instead of sadness
• Stomach aches with no clear cause
• Trouble sleeping
• Big reactions to small things
• “I don’t want to go to school”

It’s easy to miss because it doesn’t always look like what we expect.

💡 What helps:
• Keep communication open
• Validate feelings, even when they seem small
• Watch for patterns, not just one bad day
• Ask gently instead of assuming

You don’t have to have all the answers.
Just being a safe place goes a long way.

And if something feels off, trust that instinct.
We’re here to help you figure it out.

Every child deserves the same start. ❤️

Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

In pediatrics, we see it clearly
Health outcomes should never depend on race, zip code, or access.

But they often do.

From maternal health to infant mortality to breastfeeding support, disparities are real
And they impact families every single day

What can we do?

✔ Listen without judgment
✔ Provide culturally respectful care
✔ Advocate for equitable access
✔ Support every family’s goals

Small actions in the exam room matter more than we think

Because when we care for children, we are shaping the future

Let’s make it a fair one

Why are allergies SO bad right now?

If your child has a runny nose, itchy eyes, or nighttime cough…
you’re not imagining it.

Tree pollen in North Georgia is VERY high right now
(and will likely stay that way most of the week)

The biggest triggers right now:
• Oak
• Pine (that yellow dust everywhere)
• Birch & maple

What this means for kids:
• More sneezing, congestion, itchy eyes
• Cough that’s worse at night
• Asthma flares in some children

What actually helps:
• Shower or rinse off after outdoor play
• Change clothes when coming inside
• Keep windows closed (especially mornings)
• Run AC on recirculate in the car
• Start allergy meds early, not after symptoms get bad

If your child seems miserable or symptoms aren’t improving, we’re here to help.

When your child turns 18, everything changes legally overnight.

Even the most involved, supportive parents can find themselves unable to help in critical moments without the right paperwork in place.

Power of Attorney allows your young adult to give you permission to step in if needed, especially in medical or financial situations.

The good news? This is simple, affordable, and one of the most important things you can do before college or adulthood.

• Mama Bear Legal Forms
• CaringInfo
• Georgia Advance Directive for Health Care

In Georgia, forms usually need:
• Notarization
• Witness signatures

Save this post, share it with a friend, and start the conversation early.
