🌟 Big news at Nurturing Minds!🌟
We’re now using the Meaningful Outcomes Treatment & Assessment Scale (MOTAS) — a new, comprehensive assessment tool designed for individuals with autism and related needs.

Here’s why we’re excited:
🔹 MOTAS covers nearly 1,200 measurable items across 20 key domains — everything from communication and social behavior to safety, flexibility, and independence.
🔹 It tracks more than just whether a skill is learned — it also measures generalization (doing it in different settings/with different people) and maintenance (keeping it over time).
🔹 It’s built with collaboration in mind: assessments include input from caregivers, other professionals, and when appropriate, the individual themselves — to make sure goals are meaningful and aligned with each family’s values.

At Nurturing Minds, this aligns beautifully with our mission to provide child-led, assent-based, and individualized therapy — not just checking boxes, but making sure each child’s progress truly reflects who they are and where they’re going.

We’re so excited to use MOTAS to refine our programs, celebrate meaningful growth, and partner with families more deeply than ever. 💛

If your child is struggling to focus, follow directions, or stay engaged — it might not be “behavior.” It might be dysregulation.

When a child’s body or brain feels overwhelmed (too loud, too bright, too fast, too new), their nervous system goes into “protection mode.” In that state, it’s really hard to learn, listen, or communicate — even with their best effort.

At Nurturing Minds ABA, we help kids learn what calm feels like through:
🌱 Sensory supports and movement breaks
🎲 Play that feels natural and fun
💬 Teaching safe, simple ways to ask for help or a break

Because once a child’s body feels safe, their brain is ready to grow.

If you’ve ever wondered whether your child might benefit from structured, play-based support, we’re always happy to answer questions or give a tour — no pressure, just conversation. 💛

October is Mental Health Awareness Month 🧠💛

It’s a good reminder that mental health matters for every age, even for our little ones. Children experience big feelings too — joy, frustration, excitement, sadness — sometimes all in one day.

At Nurturing Minds, we help kids learn to understand and express those feelings safely through play, connection, and gentle support.

Because when kids feel calm and understood, they’re ready to grow, connect, and shine. ✨

Kids move between being regulated and dysregulated every single day - and that’s completely normal!

When a child is regulated, you’ll notice things like calm bodies, flexible thinking, and curiosity. Dysregulation might look like yelling, shutting down, or covering ears when the world feels “too much”. Neither state is “bad” - it’s just information about how they’re feeling in the moment. At Nurturing Minds, we focus on helping kids build the tools to return to calm through play, movement, and sensory supports - so they feel safe, confident, and ready to learn. 💛
