As we head into 2026, I’ve been reflecting on how we end our days—not just how we power through them. 🌙

This week’s newsletter explores simple end-of-day rituals that help calm the nervous system, reduce sleep procrastination, and invite deeper rest.

Sometimes the most powerful reset begins with a gentle landing💛

Best Self Post Holiday Reflection

Sometimes disappointment isn’t about the gift at all.
It’s about expecting others to sense an unspoken need and feeling let down when they don’t.

For many people, this pattern traces back to early experiences of not being fully seen or heard.
Where blending in felt safer than expressing needs.
Where self-abandonment became a form of protection.

At Best Self, we gently process this trauma so you’re no longer waiting to be understood without speaking.
So you can stay present, connected, and receptive.

The greatest gift isn’t under the tree.
It’s the ability to receive connection, nature, family, traditions, and moments as they are.

Yes, the holidays can bring a natural letdown or recovery period.
They’re also an invitation to rest, reflect, and choose how you want to show up differently in the new year.

Best Self Reminder

As the holidays arrive, I’m practicing leaning in (but not hosting) rather than pushing through.

Leaning into the warmth of the fire.
The comfort of familiar voices.
The quiet magic in the smell of rain or the first hint of snow.

These small, sensory moments nourish the nervous system and remind us that presence itself is healing.

If it feels right for you, you might gently invite your ancestors—those who came before you—into the season.
Light a candle.
Share a story.
Cook a recipe they loved.
Or simply pause and acknowledge the legacy that lives on through you.

The holidays can be deeply meaningful and bittersweet.
For some of us, grief sits right alongside gratitude.

I lost my father a few days before Christmas many years ago, and I still feel that tender echo each season especially after losing my Mr. Noodle.

Over time, I’ve learned that honoring love doesn’t mean avoiding joy instead it means letting both coexist.

Wherever you find yourself this holiday:
• It’s okay to feel it all
• It’s okay to slow down
• It’s okay to honor your story

May you lean into what feels steady, warm, and nourishing and let that be enough.

✨ Thriving from the inside out guide to be the Best Version of yourself this holiday season.

🌿 Food & Mood Friday: Nature as Nourishment 🌿

On this Food & Mood Friday, let’s remember that nourishment comes not just from the foods we choose, but also from the natural world around us. When we step outside and breathe in that fresh, rain-washed air, or take in the scent of green ferns and the earthy richness of the forest floor, we’re feeding our souls just as much as we’re feeding our bodies. Each moment of connection with nature is a gentle reminder that we can restore, balance, and thrive from the inside out.

Happy Friday, and may your food and your surroundings nourish you deeply today!

People sometimes ask me what it really means to live a life of health and purpose not just to avoid dying early, but to live well until the end.

Two fitness gurus give us a powerful contrast:

🏃‍♂️ Jim Fixx helped launch the running craze in the 1970’s. He was a man who quit smoking, got fit, and inspired millions. But he also had strong family history of heart disease and undetected coronary blockages. Tragically, he died of a heart attack at 52 while running. The media wrongfully blamed his running for his early death.

💪 Jack LaLanne, the Godfather of Fitness, joked he “could never die -it would ruin his image.” He lived to 96, worked out daily until his final week, and died of pneumonia not heart disease keeping his image intact!

💭 Here’s the insight:
Health isn’t just about moving more instead it’s about knowing your body, your risks, and your values. Exercise is life-giving, but it can’t erase genetics or unseen health risks on its own. What mattered most for both men wasn’t simply avoiding death — it was how they chose to live.

🎩 My hat says: “Don’t die.”
But what if we flipped that? What if it meant:
✨ Die with a mission.
✨ Die living your purpose.
✨ Die having lived with intention, connection, and impact.

Ask yourself today:
How do you want to die?
And more importantly…
How do you want to live before then?

Writing Remodel Your Brain was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done—and also one of the most rewarding. Reading reviews and receiving emails and messages about how the book is helping people live their best lives and become the best version of themselves fills my heart with joy. Seeing people gift the book to others this holiday season is especially meaningful. It’s a gift that says, I care about you, and I want to see you thrive.

With each inhale, imagine drawing strength up from the ground—
through the soles of your feet,
up your legs, into your hips and spine.

Feel yourself becoming rooted… grounded… present.

Now notice the branches above you, stretching outward and upward.

Sunlight filters through leaves and moss, spilling warmth across your shoulders, your chest, your face.

You don’t have to reach for the light. It finds you.

A regulated nervous system is what makes presence possible and that gift is priceless.

Meditation Monday
Having a “nature stand spot”—a place where you pause, feel the earth beneath you, and connect with the plants, trees, and wildlife around you—can gently ground your nervous system. It’s a lot like starting your morning with healthy fats, protein, and fiber: simple, nourishing, and stabilizing.

This high-level grounding practice can help keep you regulated throughout the busy holiday season. And if it’s too cold or rainy to step outside, try standing by a window or imagining the sensation of being outdoors. Even small moments of connection count.

Every intentional pause you take to reconnect with the earth builds a steadier, more resilient you—and helps you be your Best Self.

My book is currently on holiday sale so you can gift someone a reminder that they are deeply cared for and truly capable of thriving from the inside out.

It’s never too late to try something new or to compete! Diane didn’t start until her 70s and went on to set the 200m butterfly record at age 91. Proof that age is just a number.

Congratulations to Diane Mueller, 91, for setting a USMS record in the 200 SCM butterfly! 🎉

She admits she was “so surprised” when she found out at the meet that her time of 11:20.57 was a new record. They even paused the meet to announce what she had done.

Diane, a member of New Mexico Masters Swimming, didn’t start competing until she was 72, but once she did, she was hooked.

"I love swimming butterfly,” she says. “It has such a great rhythm, completely different from the other strokes."

She also enjoys powerlifting for her bone health, something she’s been doing for about 10 years.

Way to go, Diane! We can't wait to see what records you'll break next. 💪

Be Your Best Self in 2019!

My mission is to use psychotherapy, coaching, and a healthy lifestyle to create better thoughts, behaviors, relationships and moods. After doing a complete intake, clients gain insight, understanding, and tools and help people be their Best Self Today.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who provides therapy while walking and talking on nature trails. Clients who are unable to meet in person can do a phone session instead. Walking Psychotherapy lifts your mood so that you feel better about yourself and your life, and helps you get unstuck and change self-sabotaging behaviors. You will be listened to with compassion, gain insight and tools, and move through your concerns with support. You will do home practice of the behaviors, thoughts, and skills that we are focusing on to streamline your results. You will be less overwhelmed, more on target, and live your best life. I am also a wellness and ADD coach. You will create specific, measurable goals for yourself in the area that you would like to improve while walking on a peaceful nature trail. You will be asked pin-pointed questions to help you gain clarity about what you want to accomplish. We will create specific plans to meet your goals, and we will track your progress daily. Do you need a little more consistent motivation and accountability? Sign up for my accountablity app, online trainings, or a personalized session. I invite you to view my website and contact me for a free consultation. Every step you take builds a better you!
