I am the type of person who often has a few irons in the fire. Last year, I was homeschooling my daughter, doing my tattooing apprenticeship, my 300hr yoga teacher training, doing my work as social media coordinator for Pike Street Tattoo, and teaching yoga classes.
I enjoy being occupied like this, because I have a tendency to get bored.
That said, every day I make time to rest.
Rest is as vital as food, water, and sleep and I take it seriously, especially after learning how cortisol (the stress hormone) affects the body and mind, leading not only to dis-ease, but disease, high blood pressure, heart disease, cancer, weight gain (especially in the abdomen), increased anxiety, depression, and more.
Rest is not the same as sleep.
Some of us don’t feel rested after sleeping.
True rest is active, attentive, and nurturing.
Whether you devote 5 minutes or an hour to rest, I encourage you to rest daily.
I plan entire yoga classes around rest. If you’d like more information about this, please PM me.
Namaste and Blessings,
Resa
