❄️Blessed Winter Solstice❄️

Tonight brings us the longest night of the year. The perfect time to embrace the quiet of the first day of Winter, to count our blessings, eat warm and nourishing foods, and allow some introspection and Svadyaya (self-study- according the Yoga Sutras).

After today, the light grows longer as the Wheel of Life continues to turn. In just a couple months, the snowdrops and crocuses will be blooming!

Because I have been getting messages asking me which classes are best for folks, I thought I’d create a series to explain each one I am offering in 2026 so you can see what you can expect! Of course classes vary, but these videos will give you an idea.

What does it mean to be trauma-informed?

Back in 2021, when I completed my 200hour certification, I also got trauma-informed certification, but what does this mean?

Am I able to assess mental health issues like a manual health specialist?
• No. That’s beyond the scope of my practice and would subject me to legal action.

Am I able to offer therapy to my students?
• No. That is also beyond the scope of my practice and would subject me to legal action.

Am I allowed to intentionally activate trauma in individuals to help them work through It?
• No. That is also beyond the scope of my practice and would subject me to legal action.

So what does it mean?

Being Trauma-Informed certified means
1. I have been trained to hold a clean container for your yoga practice, without projecting my beliefs or my own trauma onto you.
2. I have been trained to offer options for poses that are often activating for some students.
3. My classes are intentionally and unapologetically inclusive, and foster a safe space for any and everyone who wishes to practice.
4. I have been trained on how to handle a class situation if someone is activated. Yoga moves stagnant energy theough the body and sometimes we are activated and aren’t even sure why. This may lead to tears, giggles, feelings of anger or frustration, etc… My job is to help guide you to practice Svadyaya (self-study), to inquire and explore yourself more deeply and without attachment.

What If I Need Help with My Mental Health? Can A Trauma-Informed Yoga Teacher Help Me?

Should a situation go beyond the scope of my practice as a yoga teacher, is recommended that the student seek help from a licensed professional.
I’m here to hold a clean, safe space for your yoga practice.

Whether it’s 5 minutes or 2 hours, rest is vital.

Often we only think of rest as sleep, but sleep is not always restful.

Sleep often involves dreams, which can put the body and mind in a stressed state. Have you ever awaken with a furrowed brow, or feeling more tired than when you went to bed?
I think we all have and that shows that sleep is not always restful.

Active rest, such as Restorative Yoga or Yoga Nidra foster true rest in the body-mind which allows the body time to stimulate the rest and digest response of the parasympathetic nervous system, which can help reduce the stress response and enable the body to heal itself.

Good evening, friends!
Below is a sequence I did last night. The quality isn’t great, but the room was dim because I was getting ready to go to bed and as I often talk about with Ayurveda, creating a cozy, relaxing space before turning in is a good idea for helping the mind and body settle into a relaxed state.
So, you get the REAL deal, not the “reel deal.” 🙂 I will use a microphone for each video going forward and will be adjusting things to make the YouTube experience better for you, while staying authentic, as I learn and grow.
As always, listen to your body and use props/modifications as desired. Thank you for sharing practice with me.
