ABCs of ABA: S is for Shaping 🎯

Shaping means teaching new skills gradually by reinforcing small steps toward the goal. For example, if a child is learning to say a word, we first celebrate any sound they make, then syllables, and finally the full word.

Shaping builds confidence and turns big goals into achievable milestones through patience and encouragement.

Reinforcement means providing something positive to increase the chances of a behavior happening again. Whether it’s a high-five, verbal praise, or a favorite activity, reinforcement helps make learning enjoyable and motivating.

Our therapists use reinforcement carefully to encourage growth, build confidence, and help children experience success in every session.
