Cold and flu season tends to linger through January.

Most symptoms are mild and can be managed at home with rest and fluids, but some signs mean it’s time to call 911.

Trouble breathing, chest pains, confusion, and fainting. If symptoms feel sudden, severe, or get worse quickly, don’t wait.

EMS crews can provide care right away and help prevent complications.

Take care of yourself, and check in on others when you can.

January mornings in Harris County often start with fog.
That fog makes it harder to see vehicles, obstacles, and emergency crews on the road.

Use low-beam headlights so others can see you.
Avoid hazard lights while driving.
Slow down and increase your following distance.

These small choices reduce crashes and keep everyone safer when visibility drops.
Have you driven through heavy fog recently?

Cooler weather brings shorter days and more slip hazards around homes and walkways.
That leads to a rise in fall-related injuries across Harris County.

Wet sidewalks, cluttered steps, and low lighting are common causes.
Take a moment to slow down and watch where you step.

If someone falls and can’t get up, has a head injury, or is in severe pain, call 911.
Early EMS care can prevent complications!

• Use a rideshare or taxi
• Choose a designated driver
• Stay the night if needed

Safe travels from your HCESD3 EMS team. We’ll be here if you need us.
