Did you know asphalt and pavement can reach temperatures of 140°F or higher on hot days?

Surfaces like parking lots, sidewalks, and playground areas heat up quickly under direct sunlight.

These temperatures can cause burns to bare feet and can be especially dangerous for children and pets spending time outdoors. Consider testing the pavement with your hand and encouraging shoes when surfaces are hot.

Taking simple precautions can help prevent heat-related injuries during the summer months.

Hot temperatures can increase the risk of dehydration, especially during outdoor activities. Drinking water regularly helps your body stay cool and maintain normal function throughout the day.

Try to drink water before you feel thirsty, take breaks in the shade, and increase fluids during exercise or time spent outside. Children and older adults may be more vulnerable to dehydration in the heat.

Staying hydrated is a simple step that helps keep you safe and healthy during the summer.

April showers can make roads more dangerous and increase the risk of hydroplaning. Hydroplaning happens when your tires lose traction on wet pavement, causing you to temporarily lose control of your vehicle.

If your vehicle begins to hydroplane, remember these steps: ease off the gas, avoid sudden braking, keep the steering wheel steady, steer gently in the direction you want to go, and wait for traction to return.

The best prevention is slowing down and giving yourself extra space on wet roads.

Stay alert, drive carefully, and call 911 in an emergency.
