December brings family gatherings, celebrations, and a sharp increase in impaired driving crashes, many of them preventable.

Driving under the influence doesn’t only mean alcohol.
Prescription medications, recreational drugs, and even some over-the-counter medicines can slow your reaction time and affect judgment.

If you’re celebrating this month:
• Choose a sober driver
• Use rideshare or call a friend
• Hand over your keys if you’re not okay to drive

Our EMS crews see the impact of impaired driving up close, and it’s heartbreaking.

A responsible choice behind the wheel can save a life.

Flu and RSV cases rise this time of year, especially in kids and older adults.

Simple things make a big difference:
Wash your hands often.
Cover your cough.
Stay home if you’re feeling sick.

If someone has trouble breathing or a high fever that won’t go down, don’t wait; call 911.

Healthy habits help keep our Harris County community safe this season.

Most kitchen accidents happen in just a few seconds, usually when someone steps away “for a moment.”

Make it a habit to pause and do a quick “Stop, Check, Turn Off” before leaving the stove:
• Stop what you’re doing
• Check every burner
• Turn off anything you’re not actively using

A small reminder keeps your kitchen safer and prevents avoidable burns or emergency calls.

Holiday roads get busy fast, and distractions can pile up without you noticing.

A quick checklist can help keep everyone safer:
• Seatbelts first
• Phone down
• Rest when you’re tired
• Slow down in heavy traffic
• Never drive after drinking

Simple habits prevent serious emergencies, especially during the holiday rush.

December is Winter Safety Awareness Month, and EMS teams are ready to respond when temperatures drop.

Colder weather brings more risks, slips, falls, breathing issues, and carbon monoxide exposure.
Here are a few ways to stay safe this season:
✅ Layer up to prevent hypothermia
✅ Use space heaters carefully (keep them 3 feet away from anything flammable)
✅ Keep walkways dry and clear
✅ Make sure your CO alarms are working

EMS is always here for Harris County, no matter the season.
