Our lead instructor received his second stripe on his Blue Belt in BJJ this morning. He is a consistent student who continues to work on his skills so that he can train our clients with the best possible techniques for their safety. He always leads by example of learning to love to learn.

We recently had the privilege of working with the Episcopal Diocese of Texas, supporting their teams in Houston, Austin, and Fort Worth.

They invested in our Phase 1 Training: Basic Self-Defense to equip their staff with the confidence and skills they need to protect themselves on and off the job. More and more organizations are recognizing the importance of providing this type of training, demonstrating a true commitment to their people’s overall safety and well-being.

At Silverback Self Defense, we customize training for each organization and travel to support teams in multiple markets when needed. Many companies are surprised to learn that this type of training may be covered under their wellness benefits—it’s worth checking with your provider.

We had the privilege of working with the employees at Hermann Park, who interact with the public every day while also navigating situations that may involve individuals who are not safe or unable to comply with park policies.

Our session focused on customized de-escalation approaches for their environment and, only when necessary, how to respond physically to disengage and protect personal safety. The goal: empower staff to do their jobs well while protecting themselves.

This was the first of three sessions we’ll be providing for their team- if the next groups are anything like this one, we know the engagement and participation will be just as great.

At Silverback Self Defense, we work with organizations to address their unique, real-world safety challenges—building practical communication skills, de-escalation confidence, and hands-on defensive responses specifically for the environments their employees work in.

The greatest compliment we ever receive is being invited back to speak at an event an additional time. This past weekend I was honored to speak at the California Pawnbrokers Association annual meeting. This year I spoke on Conflict Resolution and De-escalation training techniques for dealing with workplace violence. Thank you to my partner Valerie Henley Webre for all the work she did in my presentation, it was great.
