We are sad to announce the passing of one of our Trustees this past year. Here is his obituary.:

Jerry was born on October 19, 1947 in Dahlgren, IL to Gene & Katherine Schnicker. On August 20, 1970 he married Joyce (Fisher) Schnicker, who survives.

Jerry worked as a janitor at Dahlgren Grade School, was a member of the Dahlgren Community Chapel church, and served as a trustee on the Richardson Hill Cemetery board. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, mowing, reading, and going to church. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and with his pet dog Hoss.

June 2025

The Board of Trustees of Richardson Hill Cemetery Association wish to present this annual report to our friends of “The Hill.”
The Hill’s Chapel hosted a beautiful Easter Sunrise Service this April 20th. Pastor, John Hefner, delivered an inspiring resurrection message and Trey McDaniel provided the music. Over 60 people attended the service and the church was very close to being full! If possible, make plans to attend next year’s Sunrise Service on April 5th, 2026 at 6:30 am.

We wish to thank everyone who has made donations to maintain our cemetery. Jeff Reyling Lawn Service has done an exceptional job maintaining the cemetery grounds for the last three years and he has been rehired to provide maintenance for the 2025 season. Although the Hill receives a small amount of money from the township for mowing expenses, it is not adequate to cover even half of the cemetery’s upkeep and maintenance. In addition, this spring’s storms and heavy rains have made additional mowings and clean-up necessary. Your contributions are very important and greatly appreciated and make the upkeep of this beautiful historic, landmark possible.
Our cemetery is rare because soldiers are interred from the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Mexican War, Civil War, Spanish War, WWI, WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War, and Persian Gulf War. Unfortunately, several of the veterans buried at the Hill do not have military plaques or have damaged plaques. Family members can apply online through the Veterans Administration to obtain or replace military markers at https://.va.gov. Local veterans’ organizations and funeral homes can also assist families in obtaining markers.
Every year before Memorial Day and Veterans’ Day, the Trustees attempt to place an American flag by each veteran’s grave. We appreciate and rely on volunteers to help with flags; please contact us (618-736-2812) if you would be available to help place flags on these special days. Sometimes a grave overlooked. In the event that your veteran’s grave doesn’t have a flag, we will place a bucket of flags by the entrance of the chapel. Please make sure that your veteran has a flag on his/her grave.

Thank-you for your continued support! Please send contributions to: Richardson Hill Cemetery Association; P.O.Box 135; Dahlgren, IL 62828. You can also make an online donation via PayPal at richardsonhillcemetery@gmail.com.
Our annual meeting will be held at “The Hill” on Sunday, May 25th, 2025 at 2pm; we hope to see you there!

A blessed Easter service at "the Hill"

The Board of Trustees of Richardson Hill Cemetery Association wish to present this belated annual report to our friends of “The Hill.” Due to unforeseen circumstances, our May 25th meeting had to be canceled and rescheduled in July.
First of all, we wish to thank everyone who has made donations to maintain our cemetery. Although we receive a small amount of money from the township for mowing expenses, it is not adequate to cover the cemetery’s upkeep and maintenance. A storm at the end of May this year caused half of a large tree to fall on the west side of the cemetery, narrowly missing several headstones. We appreciate John Ewald for cutting up and stacking the debris. We hired James Parkhill to cut down the remainder of the rotted tree to prevent possible future damage to head stones. Check with your Homeowners Insurance to verify that your policy covers your headstone and those of deceased love ones. Rates for this type of coverage is very reasonable.
Jeff Reyling Lawn Service has does an exceptional job maintaining the cemetery grounds and he has been rehired to provide maintenance for the 2024 season.
Every year before Memorial Day and Veterans’ Day, the Trustees attempt to place an American flag by each veteran’s grave. This Memorial Day, Dahlgren Grade School Principal, Jay Lentz, volunteered to place flags and Trustee, Leland Widick, picked them up after the holiday.

WOW! Thanks to all the donations made to help finance the exterior repair of the church the past few years, it looks amazing. And, thanks to Reyling Lawn Care, the entire. cemetery looks fantastic. The mowing and the clean up around each headstone is absolutely perfect.

Now that the outside of the church looks new, our attention at yesterday's annual meeting was drawn to the ramps leading up to the front door and the interior walls of the church. They are also in need of help. If you are able to make a contribution to help with continuing church maintenance and mowing, the Cemetery Association would be very grateful. Please send donations (small or large) to Richardson Hill Cemetery Association; P.O.Box 135; Dahlgren, IL 62828. Thank you all so much for your continued support.

Visiting the cemetery yesterday we noticed a flag next to Howard W. Allen's great-great-grandfather's old headstone. The words on the stone had dissolved into time years ago so it was hard to tell that Thomas Marsh served in the Civil War. We were able to recover the original wording and place a new marker there last fall.

RICHARDSON HILL CEMETERY ASSOCIATION
Annual Letter May 2023
The Board of Trustees of Richardson Hill Cemetery Association wish to present this annual report to our friends of “The Hill”:
Last year, the church was re-sided and its structural damage repaired by Willie Webb Construction, Ewing, IL. The old chimney was also removed and the roof was sealed. This year, we were able to hire Marvin Miller to re-caulk and paint all of the (10) windows and the front door area. We continue our battle with a “ladybug” infestation and have quarterly pest inspection and spraying by Terminix. Jeff Reyling Lawn Service has done an exceptional job maintaining the grounds and he has been rehired to provide maintenance for the 2023 season.
This past December 4th, the annual Christmas service and Open House was held. Pastor John Hefner from the Dahlgren Community Chapel delivered the message and refreshments were served. In April, the Dahlgren Community Chapel conducted Easter Sunrise Services at “The Hill” and Pastor John Hefner delivered the message. Next year’s Sunrise Service will be Sun. March 31, 2024 at 6:30am.
Every year before Memorial Day and Veterans’ Day, the Trustees attempt to place an American flag by each veteran’s grave. This year, we have brand new flags thanks to a generous donation by Howard and Lorie Allen. We rely on volunteers to place flags; please contact us (618-736-2812) if you would be available to help place flags on these special days. Sometimes a grave is unintentionally overlooked. In the event that your veteran’s grave doesn’t have a flag, we will place a bucket of flags by the entrance of the chapel. Please make sure that your veteran has a flag on his/her grave.
The Board of Trustees would like to post information on our page about veterans who are buried at “the Hill”. We are asking for copies of photos, military records, and stories, etc. honoring your loved ones. Our cemetery is rare because soldiers are interred from the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Mexican War, Civil War, Spanish War, WWI, WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War, and Persian Gulf War. Please help us in the preservation of memories honoring these gallant veterans.
We wish to thank everyone who makes donations to maintain our cemetery. Although we receive a small amount of money from the township for mowing expenses, it is not adequate to cover the cemetery’s upkeep and maintenance. YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS ARE VERY IMPORTANT. Please send contributions to: Richardson Hill Cemetery Association; P.O.Box 135; Dahlgren, IL 62828. You can also make an online donation via PayPal at richardsonhillcemetery@gmail.com Thank-you for your continued support!
