I’m often asked what inspired me to get into massage therapy.

Its not an easy question to answer. Like most massage therapists, it was a calling.

However, I do know what has kept me in this career for six years, no matter the trials and growing pains, and that’s the love for the clients that get on my table.

No matter how difficult the day, I always come home after a day of work feeling rejuvenated and grateful for my ability to make a difference in someone’s quality of life.

Massage therapy isn’t easy and it can be inconsistent at times. Its definitely a profession that you have to deeply love to succeed in. And some weeks even that doesn’t feel like enough.

But there is nothing better than sharing a moment with the person on your table and leaving the room knowing that both of your lives are a little better for being there.

What brings you joy in your life? How do you connect with people? When was your last massage? 😉

I’ve been surprised by how many people have been experiencing a “Charley Horse” on my table lately. 🐴

There are many causes for them, ranging from low potassium, dehydration, pregnancy, and a multitude of other reasons. They’re uncomfortable and at their worse, painful.

I’ve started to carry around a handful of turmeric supplements to offer to clients that experience them on my table or complain about getting them frequently. My first time taking a First Aid class, the instructor told us that a quick fix for a Charley Horse is to eat a packet of mustard. It stops it immediately.

I hate mustard, so fortunately for me, I later discovered that it’s the turmeric in the mustard that helps with the cramps and not the mustard itself. I always recommend to anyone that is experiencing chronic inflammation to take turmeric supplements because a large dose of turmeric has been known to decrease inflammation and it actually supports health in the liver instead of harming it like NSAIDs do.

Do you get frequent cramps or “Charley Horses”? Have you ever eaten mustard to help relieve your cramps? Or are you like me, and do you take turmeric daily? If so, what are some health benefits that you’ve seen?

Spring is here and so are allergies! 🌹🌸🌺🌷🌼🌱🤧

Did you know that massage can help drain sinus pressure and give you the relief you’ve been looking for without OTC medication?

Sinusitis is no fun and can be extremely painful if left untreated. Releasing the sinus pressure takes no time at all and can be requested in any massage that you book with me!

DM or visit our website to book your massage today and mention during your intake that you want me to work on your sinuses. There’s no additional charge and you’ll still receive an incredible full body massage!

Remember, at Sunflower Integrative Therapies, we got more than your back!

I feel personally attacked by this content. 😂

If you’re a regular on my table then we’ve probably had the pillow talk. 🛌

I am huge fan of supporting your joints while you sleep with a few well placed pillows.

Do I think you need this many pillows to get a comfortable and productive night of sleep? No.

However, there are still great benefits to putting a pillow between your legs and another in the small of your back.

Ultimately, what any body worker really wants is for their clients to get a well rested night of sleep in whatever way that looks for them… As long as they’re not sleeping on their stomach! 😬

How do you like to sleep? Are you like this man in the video that needs a lot of support to sleep at night? Or do you even use a pillow at all?

𝐈𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐞?

When I first got out of massage school, I built a reputation for being very strong and having firm pressure. Unlike the other students in my course who were building up their strength, I was learning restraint. It’s something I’m not proud of today, because I accidentally hurt a few people, but it gave me an unique perspective of the importance of pressure.

There’s unfortunately a well kept secret in the massage industry that deep tissue usually translate to deep Swedish and not actually the deeper muscle tissue like the name claims. In order to work on deeper muscle tissue, the therapist will need to apply significantly less pressure which, from my experience, annoys tf out of some clients.

There are many amazing therapist that believe in order for a massage to be effective, the therapist needs to apply light pressure through the whole massage. This activates the parasympathetic nervous system which allows the body to better receive the treatment.

I, personally, think that pressure is unique to each client and it’s not my job to police their preference. Some people aren’t sensitive to touch and light touch can aggravate them more than relax them and some people are very sensitive to touch and any deep(er) pressure hurts.

I have learned to be smarter with my touch rather than stronger, which has saved my body and has helped me be a more rounded therapist. When a client tells me they like deeper pressure during the initial intake, I very rarely actually apply deeper pressure during the appointment. A lot of this is my privilege of being naturally strong, but a bigger portion is my ability to target muscles in productive ways.

Massage can be uncomfortable, but it should rarely be painful. Ultimately, what the therapist and client wants is a balance where the issues are being addressed while the client feels safe and secure.

What kind of pressure do you like when you get a massage? Have you ever thought that you wanted one type of pressure and discovered that you enjoy another more? When was your last massage?

From humble beginnings to the practice of my dreams!

There were things I loved about my previous practice, but it never felt like the right spot for me and my business.

It was an extremely difficult decision to move, but I’m so grateful that I did!

If there is one thing I’ve learned about life, it’s better to move on when things aren’t working for you than to wait for life to move you forward.

I’m so grateful to to have listened to that call and to have you at my new practice! You can book an appointment through my website or PM me.

At Sunflower Integrative Therapies, we got more than your back!

How do you measure success?

I’ve been asking myself this question the last few weeks as I moved my practice from my previous location to my new one.

My success hasn’t looked like I thought it would. I don’t drive a fancy car. I haven’t taken a vacation since I opened my practice. And some days I wake up grinding my teeth because my schedule has been light.

But when I reflect over my career and business, I feel incredibly successful. I feel like I’ve accomplished more than I could ever dream and that I will only continue to move forward from here.

I’ve learned so much these last nine months with my practice. Life hit hard shortly after I opened my doors and I learned a lot of tough lessons as a new business owner the hard way while struggling with grief, two surprise moves, a break up, a whole month of being sick, and endless car troubles.

And yet I’m still here with a huge smile and a drive to see my dreams through.

This is how I measure MY success- by the amount of drive and love I have for my projects no matter what hardships stands in my way.

How do YOU measure YOUR success?

🌻WE MOVED!🌻

We’re so excited to announce that we moved to a new location last week. Everything happened so quickly that it still doesn’t feel real.

To say this is my dream location is an understatement. I first found out about this location my first year out of massage school. I took my first CE here. I remember sitting at my massage table with my best friend, who is also a LMT, looking around, and wishing I could rent a room from there one day.

AND HERE I AM!

This location is in East Dallas, right next to White Rock Lake off of Mockingbird Ln.

As I get comfortable, I plan to expand the services I offer to include corrective exercises, stretching sessions, and lots of other goodies!

Come check out the new location! You can book through our website or send me a DM.

We’re so excited to have you!
