Having an epidural doesn’t mean you’re limited to giving birth on your back!

There are still several positions that can support comfort and help labor progress — including side-lying, supported squatting with a bar, and hands-and-knees variations. Movement may look different with an epidural, but it’s still possible and often encouraged with guidance from your birth team. 💜

Pap smears and HPV testing don’t have to be scary! Knowing what to expect can help ease nerves and make screening feel more manageable.

A collects a small sample of cervical cells to look for abnormal changes. HPV testing checks for high-risk types of that can cause those changes. The process is typically quick, and while it may feel uncomfortable for a moment, it shouldn’t be painful.

Depending on your age and health history, your midwife may recommend one test or both — and screening guidelines have changed, so yearly Pap smears aren’t always necessary anymore.

screening is one of the most effective ways to protect your health. If you’re feeling nervous or unsure, talk to us! We're here to explain, support, and walk you through every step. 💜

Let’s debunk a few common breastfeeding myths 🍼

Myth #1: “You need to restrict your diet.”
Fact: You don’t need to follow a restrictive diet to breastfeed successfully. Focus on eating a balanced, nourishing diet and listening to your body!

Myth #2: “Breastfeeding should hurt.”
Fact: Some tenderness can be normal early on, but ongoing or significant pain is not. Persistent discomfort often signals a latch or positioning issue — not that you’re “not cut out for breastfeeding.” With the right support from a lactation consultant, breastfeeding should feel comfortable.

Myth #3: “You can’t breastfeed if you’re sick.”
Fact: In many cases, breastfeeding while you have a cold can actually benefit your baby. Your body produces antibodies that pass through breast milk and help support your baby’s immune system. Practice good hygiene (hand washing, masking if needed) and always check with your provider about medications that are safe to take while breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding doesn’t have to be painful, restrictive, or confusing — support and accurate information make all the difference. Reach out to your midwife or schedule a visit with one of our on-site lactation consultants. 🤍

In most cases, cervical cancer develops over many years, beginning as abnormal cervical cell changes often caused by HPV.

This is why routine Pap smears and HPV testing are SO important. Screening allows providers to detect and monitor changes early — often before the cancer develops — making cervical cancer one of the most preventable types of cancers.

While most cases progress slowly, staying up to date on screening and following up on any abnormal results is key. If you’re unsure when you’re due, talk with your midwife today!
