Originally named Hall Street Negro Park in 1915, Griggs Park was the second park in Dallas designated for Black citizens. In 1924, the park was renamed to honor Rev. Allen Griggs, a freedman who became a well-known Baptist minister, newspaper publisher, and educator.

The park served as a gathering place in the historic black neighborhood of State-Thomas. The park included a baseball diamond and, in 1922, became home to the first public swimming pool for black Dallas residents. Griggs Park has been renovated with new trees, walkways, lawns, and a monument that honors Griggs.

This , we celebrate the legacy of Rev. Allen Griggs. Explore the 7.4-acre neighborhood space, featuring gathering places and trails.
