Program πŸ“š: Master of Prosthetics-Orthotics

"My career goal in the field of Prosthetics and Orthotics is to be a provider who ensures no patient ever feels out of options. After supporting my grandfather through his health challenges, I learned how much compassionate healthcare truly matters. As a future clinician, I hope to bring that same empathy to every patient, using innovative devices and personalized solutions to help people regain independence and confidence."

Check out today’s graduating student spotlight as we continue the countdown to the 2025 School of Health Professions Commencement.

Today's feature πŸŽ“: Maddie James, MCN, RDN, LD
Program πŸ“š: Master of Clinical Nutrition - Coordinated Program

"My career aspiration is to work in functional and integrative medicine, helping individuals who have struggled to find effective, compassionate, and individualized care within the traditional healthcare model. After navigating my own complex health challenges, I know firsthand how transformative it can be when someone finally feels seen, heard, and supported in identifying the root cause of their symptoms. I hope to bring that experience to others by providing evidence-based, whole-person nutrition care that improves quality of life and long-term health outcomes. I am also passionate about advancing the visibility and acceptance of functional medicine as a credible, science-driven approach that has a vital place in today’s healthcare landscape."

Celebrating our exceptional to kick off the 2025 Commencement Week!

Today's feature πŸŽ“: Jan Karel Petric, PhD, CPO, LPO
Program πŸ“š: Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Clinical Research

"I’m excited to be continuing my journey right here at the UT Southwestern School of Health Professions where it all began for me, now as an Assistant Professor in the Prosthetics & Orthotics Department! After completing my clinical training, residency, and PhD here, it feels special to come full circle and give back to the same program that shaped my career. I get to blend things I love - treating patients, teaching future clinicians, and leading research that explores how different prosthetic and orthotic devices affect the way people move and feel. I’m particularly passionate about studying biomechanical and physiological responses to different device prescriptions and componentry selection, with the aim of optimizing function, comfort, and long-term health for individuals who rely on these technologies."

Congratulations to Madison James, MCN, RDN, LD, for winning 1st place for her podium presentation in the Non-Physician Category at the 2025 Southern Region Burn Conference. Her research, conducted with Parkland Burn Center, examined burn patients' prescribed tube-feeding nutrition intake, and whether a volume-based feeding approach is effective for nurses' delivery of care during medical procedures or interventions.

Ms. James' abstract is titled, "Adequacy of Volume-Based Enteral Nutrition Provision in Critical and Acute Burn Care: A Phase II Quality Improvement Initiative." She is a 2025 graduate of the Master of Clinical Nutrition - Coordinated Program at the School of Health Professions.
