Nikao Counseling Center

Nikao Counseling Center nikao | nik'a o (verb) - to have victory over, to conquer, to overcome Nikao is a Greek word meaning "to have victory over", "to overcome" or "to conquer".

As counselors at Nikao, this word encompasses our hopes, goals, and prayers for people with whom we get to meet. We are passionate about authenticity, building trust, and helping people find a safe community. We believe that it is through brokenness, that we build character, confidence, and become stronger than ever before. We also believe that our Heavenly Father is the Ultimate Healer, and He often uses others to help hurting people. We strive to be counselors who are genuinely led and empowered by God in helping other people.

What book is on your night stand right now? 📚 Here is Nikao therapist Martha Ryan’s 2021 book recommendation:

Anxiety is an emotion that many have experienced during this pandemic. Many people have been impacted in regard to their jobs, school, health issues, weddings, and death. My family and I were no exception to experiencing difficulties and challenges over this past year. I picked up a book by Max Lucado called Anxious for Nothing.

Lucado reminds us how to experience C.A.L.M. in the midst of the unknown. He encourages us to:

Celebrate God’s goodness.

Ask God for help.

Leave your concerns with Him.

Meditate on good things.

I love how Lucado shares biblical references of God’s promises to focus on. We can’t change the circumstances that we will experience, but we can change what we think. Max Lucado reminds us that our minds cannot be full of God and full of fear at the same time.

Lucado tells us that “worry refuses to share the heart with gratitude. One heartfelt thank-you will suck the oxygen out of worry’s world. So say it often. Treat each anxious thought with a grateful one, and prepare yourself for a new day of joy.

Here’s why Rachel Hopkins keeps Peter Scazzero’s Emotionally Healthy Spirituality on her bookshelf:

“This is a classic that I go back to again and again! It speaks to the inextricable nature of emotional health and spiritual maturity and provides helpful tools to develop both emotional and spiritual growth in my life. I believe it would be a great resource for your own personal growth as well!”
