Today, I had the great sadness of being present in the room as a friend was taken off life support. It was also a great honor to be present in the room and be witness to the unconditional and infinite love between him and his mother in that final moment. Alan was only 37, and an exemplary son to Margaret, brother to Hal, and much loved police officer with the DFW Police Department. He was born to serve and protect. And in death, he did the same. Tomorrow, Christmas Day, somewhere in America, different organ recipients will get a heart, a liver and two kidneys under the Christmas tree. It wasn’t Santa. It was Alan. A good ole boy from Texas with a Cheshire grin, a wicked sense of humor and the kindest soul in the world. ❤️
