Millati Islami-DFW Chapter

Millati Islami-DFW Chapter We meet and support each-other in the battle and cure of addiction by applying the 12-Step principles and steps of Millati Islami according to Islam!

We are a group of compassionate Muslim individuals replicating the models of various 12-Step Anonymous Programs. We believe the 12-Step model, as a spiritual program, is an effective and empowering methodology that will improve our lives and ways of coping with our problems. We believe such support is a message of hope, provides cures to our problems, and will correct our character defects by both exploring and implementing the healing remedies of scripture and the examples, commitment and fortitude of Prophets and G-d-conscious men and women. Meetings are presently held at the Oak Cliff Empowerment Center (OCEC) locations: 3436 Sunnyvale St, Dallas, TX 75216. In-person meeting times are: Thursdays 6:30p-8p & Sundays 10:30a-12p. For crises & intervention, please call Br. Akbar @ 214-803-4811 or Br. Baquee Sabur @ 682-233-0559.

🎶 Charlie Wilson turned pain into purpose and built a legacy that now spans generations of music lovers.

Charlie Wilson rose to fame in the 1970s as the lead voice of The Gap Band, creating timeless hits that defined an era of funk and R&B. According to interviews with USA Today and ABC, success came fast but so did hardship after a dispute over royalties fractured the group and left Wilson struggling with addiction. By the early 1990s, he had lost nearly everything and was living on the streets of Los Angeles, later recalling in an interview with OWN that he did not realize how far he had fallen until a family member saw him and broke down in tears.

Wilson’s story did not end there. With the support of his wife Mahin and a renewed sense of faith, he rebuilt his life, found sobriety, and reemerged as a beloved collaborator for a new generation of artists including Snoop Dogg, Nas, and Tyler the Creator. In 2008, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, but because it was caught early, treatment was successful, and he began urging other men to get screened. Now decades sober and still performing into his 70s, Wilson has said he would not change a thing, explaining during his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony that the hardest seasons shaped him into the man and artist he became. His journey stands as proof that resilience, accountability, and grace can turn even the darkest chapters into something meaningful.
