At 75, Mary Lopez's life changed in an instant.

A sudden stroke left her with right-sided weakness, facial droop, and speech difficulties. But with swift medical care and incredible determination, she began making progress almost immediately.

Despite challenges with mobility, swallowing, and blood pressure management, Mary showed remarkable resilience. Within days, she advanced to a soft diet, fully engaged in therapy, and built the strength and endurance to participate in three hours of rehab each day — a powerful step toward recovery.

At Methodist Rehabilitation Hospital, Mary was also able to take advantage of one of the latest rehabilitation technologies — the LifeGlov — giving her an added boost in regaining strength and function in her affected hand and enhancing her therapy journey.

Before her stroke, Mary was fully independent. That’s her goal again. And with strong family support and an unwavering mindset, she is well on her way to returning home safely and rebuilding her independence.

Mary’s journey is a beautiful reminder of the courage it takes to recover — and the transformative power of rehabilitation. 💙

Did you know that nearly 80% of strokes may be prevented by managing certain risk factors?

Some stroke risk factors can be changed, such as smoking, physical activity, and managing conditions like high blood pressure or diabetes. Others, including age and family history, cannot. Remember, taking time to recharge and care for yourself is essential—not only for your well-being but also to continue providing the compassionate support your loved one needs on their rehabilitation journey.

We’re here to support both patients and caregivers every step of the way.

Creating Fun in What We Do — Together!

At Methodist Rehab, we believe teamwork isn’t just something that happens inside our hospital — it’s something we build every day by creating fun in what we do together.

Our recent Pickleball League End of Season Event was the perfect example! Laughter, friendly competition, high-fives, and plenty of team spirit reminded us that strong teams are built through connection.

A big congratulations to our winter tournament winners:
🥇 Mark Turner (Pharmacist) – Gold
🥈 Erin Robinson (COTA) – Silver
🥉 Alexis Gomez (PT) – Bronze

Events like these strengthen our relationships, boost morale, and remind us why we love being part of this team. When we invest in fun, we invest in each other — and that makes us even better for the patients and communities we serve.

Here’s to teamwork, wellness, and a little healthy competition!
