I would like to invite you to celebrate books and the National Day of Reading, on Saturday, February 28, at 11 AM to 1PM at the Cathedral of Hope.
Join the Human Rights Campaign of Texas for a powerful and joyful community gathering at the Cathedral of Hope as we come together around Freddy the Alien. As book bans rise in Texas we will continue to gather in the face of erasure to understand and celebrate LGBTQ+ stories, young people, and families.
This event is part book celebration, part community conversation, and 100% dedicated to keeping our stories alive. We’ll explore themes of belonging, chosen family, and courage in the face of discrimination, with space for reflection, connection, and shared hope for the future.
There will also be rock painting, button making and cookie decorating. We can have fun and support the LGBTQIA+ community through artwork. If you have books you want to donate and share so others can enjoy, please bring them.
Kids and youth are encouraged to attend. The book "Freddy the Alien" will be discussed along with fun activities. The book "I am Jazz" will also be available. Safety and privacy of children is fundamentally important at this event. Cathedral of Hope is a safe place for all LGBTQIA+ people and allies.
Come be part of an event that reminds us: our stories matter, our youth matter, and our community is still here: vibrant, proud, and unbanned.
