🎠 Oregon’s Carousel History Comes to Life!
Darrell Jabin, Oregon’s Traveling Historian, shared the history of carousels — from design and carving to the community efforts that bring them to life. Photos and stories highlighted carousels in Portland, Seaside, Albany, Salem, and Eugene, including insights from the volunteers who continue to carve animals for the Albany carousel and the founders of the Salem carousel.
Darrell's presentation offered a truly fascinating look at the artistry and dedication behind these beloved amusement rides!

Dallas Retirement Village is excited to welcome Stephanie Lynn as the new pastry chef. With more than 14 years of pastry and baking experience across Maryland, Washington, and Oregon, Stephanie brings incredible talent and creativity to the community.
Stephanie's background includes working with renowned bakeries, restaurants, and resorts! Needless to say, there’s a lot of excitement around the delicious creations she’ll be sharing here at Dallas Retirement Village. The future is looking extra sweet! 🍰

Residents at Dallas Retirement Village got creative making sweet banners to decorate their doors, fireplaces, or windows!
Guest host Jeena Huntzinger led this fun craft, and everyone loved adding their own personal touches. Some of the finished banners are already proudly displayed around the community!
A big thank-you to Jeena for bringing such a cheerful and creative activity—these banners definitely added a little extra sweetness to the day. 💖

What a blessing this was!
These wonderful young adults reached out with the desire to bless residents through music. Coming from nearby P*e Dee, they shared hymns and worship songs at Dallas Retirement Village, creating a truly special experience.
Smiles and heartfelt appreciation filled the room—residents loved the performance. Thank you, Alexander, Allana, Olivia, and Lucas, for sharing your time, talents, and hearts. 🎶

Breakfast Adventure Alert!
Residents recently headed to Salem to explore the newly opened Black Bear Diner (in the former Shari’s location)—just one of many exciting life enrichment outings kicking off the new year!
From the moment they walked in, the warm and welcoming staff made everyone feel right at home. The hearty breakfast brought smiles all around, and residents couldn’t stop raving about the delicious food and outstanding service. They definitely left full and happy!

Laughter and energy filled the Cascade Commons last week!
Children from Little Sprouts Childcare had a blast during PE- running, jumping, and playing together... their smiles say it all! Check out the video to see just a snippet of the fun in action.
The playful laughter was so contagious that many residents paused to take it all in.
Dallas Retirement Village is fortunate to have licensed childcare on campus. It offers peace of mind for the staff who need childcare services and is also a great opportunity for resident volunteers to create meaningful intergenerational connections.

Yesterday, Dallas Retirement Village held its annual Memorial Service honoring the 100 beloved residents from across campus who passed last year.
Chaplain Tom Statler led a heartfelt service of remembrance, offering reflection and comfort to all in attendance. Family members and friends placed dove ornaments on the Christmas tree in the chapel, each dove representing a life remembered and deeply loved. 🕊️
This meaningful tradition serves as a reminder that the lives shared within the Dallas Retirement Village community are never forgotten. Hearts and prayers remain with all who continue to grieve and cherish these precious memories.

Fantasy Football Fun at Dallas Retirement Village! 🏈

Each year, a group of our staff members dive into some friendly competition and playful banter over Fantasy Football.

This season’s winner? Savannah! 🎉 She kept a steady lead and claimed the champion title—complete with a trophy, a massive ring, a personalized bobblehead, and a little extra cash. 🏆💰

Will she defend her crown next year, or will tradition continue and a new player take the title? Stay tuned! 👀

Line dancing is a favorite at Dallas Retirement Village—happening twice a week!
Today’s class, led by Jan, was full of smiles and great moves. This popular activity draws many regulars, and it’s perfect for beginners too! New dancers start at the beginning of class, while experienced dancers join in later for an extended session.
Every week brings plenty of fun, energy, and community. 🕺💃

The Just For Fun Singers recently returned to Dallas Retirement Village to share a joyful performance of Christmas favorites with residents. This wonderful, non-audition group sings purely for the love of music—and it shows in every note.
Their festive harmonies and heartfelt delivery brought smiles, memories, and plenty of holiday spirit. It’s no surprise they are a longtime favorite among Dallas Retirement Village residents!

🌕 Back by Popular Demand at Dallas Retirement Village! 🚀
Donn Anderson, a favorite speaker among residents, recently returned to Dallas Retirement Village with another fascinating presentation—“Apollo 8: First Around the Moon.”
Nearly 60 years ago this month, a mighty Saturn V rocket carried three astronauts on an incredibly bold mission: not just orbiting Earth, but leaving it entirely to become the first humans to orbit the Moon. Donn guided attendees through NASA’s historic decision and the courage, risk, and wonder behind this groundbreaking flight.
As a NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador, Donn has a gift for making space history engaging, accessible, and awe-inspiring. His return—by popular demand—was clearly enjoyed by all who attended.
