This weeks staff spotlight is Austin Mankin 👋
Austin joined Corpus in 2022 to help develop their youth athlete performance programs with the goal of training the “whole” athlete.
After several years working with students at his church, Austin caught a vision for how to further reach and invest in students through fitness programs and athletic development. A lifelong athlete, Austin knows the level of influence a coach, trainer, and team can have on a student. Austin was born and raised in Coppell, Texas and participated in every sport as a young athlete. He played basketball competitively all the way through college at the University of Oklahoma and competed in the Sweet 16 in 2015 and reached the Final Four in 2016. While at OU, he played alongside and against multiple NBA players and received professional level training from former NBA head coaches and strength coaches.
After Austin left the University of Oklahoma, he spent several summers a sport camp which further solidified his passion for using sports as a vehicle for discipleship and inspiring wellness in the lives of students. In the following years, Austin obtained his personal training certification and coached students while serving as a student pastor at Watermark Church. Austin believes whole heartedly that sports will either consume and distract a student or be used as an instrumental tool in their personal development and growth as a young man or woman. He knows first-hand what kind of growth is experienced when you devote yourself to the mental and physical discipline of sports and personal training. Even when Austin wasn’t professionally in the athletic performance space, he always had a hand in it through participation in his local CrossFit gym, competing in basketball leagues, and offering one-on-one basketball training.
Austin lives in Richardson with his wife Kirby and their budding athlete, Harvey. He values his family over everything and trains the hardest for his most important role as a husband and father. When he is not up at Corpus, he is taking his family on spontaneous adventures, going to see live music, or volunteering with the student ministry at his church.
