Getting your kids introduced to yoga is always a good idea as they can learn the techniques that allow them to have better control of their mind and body from the very beginning. Children who do yoga from an early stage in their lives learn the value of loving and respecting their bodies. This also helps them to love and respect other people around them and become noble citizens as they grow up. However, explaining the value of yoga to kids may require you to take a different approach than what you would normally do when you are looking to instruct adults about the same. Hence it is important that you learn about the various ways in which you can make yoga interesting for the kids.

Yoga calms the mind while stretching and strengthening the body, making it an excellent activity to do with kids—especially energetic ones. When practicing yoga, children learn how to listen to their bodies and notice their thoughts (skills many adults are still working on!).

Most kids aren’t ready for the type of full hour-long yoga classes adults enjoy, but that doesn’t mean they can’t benefit from the practice. Through yoga, kids learn how to find a sense of inner calm and self-esteem as well as developing flexibility, strength, and balance.

For best results, adapt your yoga approach to suit your child’s attention and personality: return often to favourite poses, and if your child gets restless, take it as a cue to stop and try again another day!

Pick a quiet place to do yoga. Practicing on a yoga mat or towel helps ground children and creates a personal space in which to do the poses. Encourage kids to hold the poses from 8 to 15 seconds to start. As children get more proficient, they can slowly increase the time spent holding the postures.

I believe it’s a teacher’s responsibility to be kind to him/herself when working with children. Below the age of seven, children mimic what we say and do. That being the case, a teacher’s behaviors ought to be model behavior. We all make mistakes, and we all struggle. But with increased negative thoughts and words come increased instances of depression and anxiety.
