Ocular hypertension means the pressure inside one or both eyes is higher than normal. While it doesn’t automatically mean glaucoma, elevated eye pressure can increase the risk of optic nerve damage if it isn’t monitored.
Being diagnosed with ocular hypertension makes you a glaucoma suspect, which means your eye doctor will recommend regular exams to closely track eye pressure and overall eye health. With proper monitoring, many people with ocular hypertension never develop glaucoma.
