When we normalize emotions, we take a weight off our shoulders. Unexpressed grief doesn’t disappear. It settles.

I attended a book release for L Michelle Smith, M.S. ACC, moderated by Cynt Marshall. It felt less like a book release and more like a masterclass.

Her values:
Faith. Family. Freedom.

Her analogy for resilience:
The skyscraper that bends but doesn’t break.

Her framework:
• Self work
• Relationship work (involves others)
• World work (involves impact)

Most impactful line:
Stop waiting until you feel 100% ready.

This book belongs on your shelf. It includes 38 powerful reflection questions to help leaders move from insight to action.

At The Remix Center, we believe transformation happens when leaders pause long enough to ask the right questions. This book gives you 38 of them.

Valentine’s Day reminder: love yourself enough to rest.

Somewhere along the way we started believing that burnout means we care more.

You can’t pour from an empty cup.Close the laptop early. Take the walk. Say “not today.”

Consider this your permission slip.

Rest isn’t quitting, it’s how you stay strong.

School leadership is not for the faint of heart.

So many leaders carry the pressures of constant change, competing priorities, and team fatigue.

I’m honored to present at the 2026 Texas Alliance of Black School Educators Conference, supporting school and district leaders and athletic directors who show up every day for others while running on empty themselves.

My session, Leading in the Red Zone, will equip leaders with clear tools and a personalized playbook so that they can think calmly in chaos, communicate with confidence, and protect staff morale when the heat is on.

If you’re attending TABSE and feeling the weight of constant stress and responsibility, I look forward to seeing you.

We were taught to push through.

So glad that Sesame Street in Communities is teaching kids the importance of rest. It's a vital lesson we never received.

This weekend I attended "Black Man: A Mental Health Journey". The performance was deeply vulnerable, chronicling seven men and the burdens they carried. The conversation that followed with the audience and creators (Andre Pitre and Charnele Brown) was just as powerful. We even shared a moment singing the "A Different World" theme song with "Kimberly Reese"!!

The production was a reminder that many men are holding in more than they ever say out loud. Mental health conversations do not only belong in therapy rooms. They belong on stages, in community, and in spaces where men feel safe enough to put the weight down.

The Remix Center is honored to help create those spaces through our work with men and brotherhood groups. We are grateful for every man who has trusted us, spoken up, and made space for others to do the same.

At The Remix Center, we recognize that school counselors change lives every day through compassion, patience, and steady support. They are often the first to notice, the first to listen, and the first to step in when students and families need care. Their work strengthens the students and the entire school communities. This week, we honor and give flowers to school counselors because their impact is truly priceless.

Last week, I closed a four-part virtual stress management series with the powerful members of Blackgirlshack. Even with demanding tech roles, they still showed up, choosing growth over grind, because leadership isn’t just about pushing harder, it’s about knowing when to pause and protect your peace.

Together, we practiced simple tools to reset stress, protect energy, and lead well under pressure. Grateful to partner with organizations that understand mental health and workplace wellness are essential, not optional.

Every January, I intentionally begin my year at a leadership conference. As someone who works closely with leaders and high-performing professionals, staying educated and informed isn’t optional. It’s my responsibility.

Three lessons I’m carrying into this year:
• Failure isn’t the enemy. Avoidance is. (Dr. John Maxwell)
• Hustle without rhythm will eventually cost you. (Ryan Leak)
• Delegation, partnership, and alignment are leadership skills. (Jada Edwards)

So many leaders are succeeding outwardly while struggling inwardly and we rarely talk about it.

What are you investing in this year: rest, alignment, learning, or delegation?

Grateful for an incredible time with the Mavs Business Assist program community through the Dallas Mavericks. Connecting with Dallas entrepreneurs and gaining perspective from NBA legend Rolando Blackman reinforced why leadership development and community matter in business. Cheering the team on to a win was a great way to close out the night.🏀

Proud to be building alongside innovators who are shaping what’s next. Looking forward to future conversations with leaders who value growth, culture, and results.💙💚
