FALSE: Breast Implants do not necessarily need to be replaced every 10 years, though many believe they do based upon previous surgeons guidelines.
💡What the 10 Year Rule Means:
- Warranty: Most manufacturers offer a 10 year warranty on their implants. After 10 years, the benefits simply change.
✅ When Replacement is Needed:
- There’s a complication - rupture, capsular contracture
- You want an aesthetic change.
- They no longer look or feel right, due to weight fluctuations, body changes, etc.
👨🏻‍⚕️ What is Recommended:
- Routine ultrasound screenings every 5 years for implant surveillance.
- If you are not experiencing any issues and are pleased with your breasts, rest assured many women experience a solid tenured run with their breast implants!
