Kids don’t always know how to explain what’s wrong, but small complaints can be important clues.

Pain when biting, unexpected looseness, gum swelling, or sensitivity may be early signs of a cavity, infection, or other dental concern.

The good news? When caught early, most issues are simple and comfortable to treat.

If something doesn’t seem right, it’s always worth having it checked. We’re here to keep growing smiles healthy and worry-free.

Teething can be uncomfortable, but it doesn’t usually cause serious symptoms.

Drooling, chewing, mild fussiness, and a slight temperature increase can all be normal when teeth are coming in. But a true fever (100.4°F or higher), diarrhea, vomiting, rash, or unusual fatigue are typically signs of illness — not teething.

If your child has a high fever or seems unwell, it’s best to contact your pediatrician.

When in doubt, trust your instincts. You know your child best.

Your child’s smile has milestones too 🦷✨

From their very first dental visit to their first lost tooth, these moments are worth remembering. Save this graphic and fill it in as your child grows, one smile milestone at a time.

And don’t forget to celebrate those no-cavity checkups. They’re a big win for healthy habits 🎉💙

Tip: screenshot this and keep it in your camera roll so you can update it along the way!

Pacifiers and thumb sucking are very common and often completely normal in babies and young toddlers 💙

We usually start watching these habits more closely around ages 3–4, especially if they begin to affect tooth alignment, bite, or speech development. The goal is never pressure, just awareness.

If it’s time to wean, gentle approaches work best:
• limit use to naps or bedtime
• offer a comfort item as a replacement
• use positive encouragement, not punishment
• celebrate small wins along the way

And if you’re unsure? Ask us at your child’s next visit. We’re always happy to take a look and help guide you 🦷✨

Practicing on our stuffed animal friends helps kids learn proper brushing techniques in a fun, no-pressure way. When brushing feels like play, healthy habits stick 💙

Parents tip: let your child “teach” their favorite stuffed animal how to brush at home. It’s a great way to build confidence and consistency!

Some families prefer traditional fluoride toothpaste, while others look for fluoride-free options with clean, gentle ingredients. What matters most is choosing a toothpaste your child tolerates well, uses consistently, and that fits their individual needs.

Mouth breathing isn’t just a sleep habit, it can impact your child’s oral health over time 👃💤

Occasional mouth breathing happens, especially with colds or allergies. But frequent mouth breathing, especially during sleep, can be linked to dry mouth, higher cavity risk, restless sleep, and changes in jaw or bite development.

Nose breathing helps support healthy growth, protects teeth and gums, and promotes better sleep overall.

If you notice regular mouth breathing or snoring, mention it at your child’s next visit. We take airway awareness into account when caring for growing smiles 💙🦷

Sports season is here and mouthguards are a must 🏀⚽️🏈

Mouthguards help protect kids’ teeth, lips, and jaws from injuries during sports and active play. Whether your child plays soccer, basketball, football, baseball, hockey, or does cheer or martial arts, wearing a mouthguard can make a big difference.

As a member of the Academy of Sports Dentistry, Dr. B stays up to date on best practices for protecting athletes’ smiles.

Not sure if a store-bought option is enough or if a custom mouthguard would be better for your child? We’re always happy to help guide you toward the best fit for their smile 🦷

“Is this normal?” is one of the most common questions we hear from parents, and the answer is often yes 💙

Kids’ teeth change constantly. Gaps, wiggly teeth, late bloomers, early bloomers, it’s all part of growing. And when something isn’t typical, we’re here to catch it early and guide you through next steps.

If you’re ever unsure, ask. No question is too small when it comes to your child’s smile 🦷✨

A simple switch that makes a big difference 🦷💧

Sipping juice throughout the day keeps sugar on teeth longer than you think. Serving it with meals — and choosing water in between — helps protect little teeth and lower cavity risk.

Brushing for a full two minutes in the morning and before bed helps remove plaque, protect little teeth, and build healthy habits that last.

Tip for parents: play a favorite song, set a timer, or brush together to make it fun and consistent!
