Brantley was referred to me by his coach a few months ago due to some issues limiting his Deadlifting potential. For him, it was more than a functional movement - it was something that he enjoyed.

🔹 Our first visit went very well. Negative narratives were addressed, some technical suggestions were made and applied, and provided Brantley with the knowledge on things he had control over moving forward.

🔸 2 months later, Brantley reached out to me out of the blue and showed me him picking up 430lb off the floor with complete confidence and a true expression of strength. I could not be be anymore happier for him for overcoming his prior barriers and finding purpose again.

𝗜 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝗹𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗰 𝗪𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗳𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘁 METROFLEX GYM THE CASTLE 🏋🏽‍♂️🏋🏽‍♀️.

🔸 I’ve been holding off on this move because I wanted to get additional equipment, get more of a feel of my schedule, finalize small details to “make it perfect,” etc. but they were just honestly all excuses. The time to take action is now 👊🏽. The rest will follow in time.

🔹 I come from a very sedentary background, fell in love with strength training through Powerlifting, and made the transition into Olympic Weightlifting. Many lessons learned through the process 🙏🏽.

🔥The classes can benefit anybody of any skill level, age, and gender; I view things from a performance and rehab perspective.

▪️ Besides a workout, you’ll be added to my private group where we will review training videos, learn and support each other, and discuss anything you have questions about!

💥While the Olympic lifts are the “end destination,” they don’t have to be your End-Goal - many training principles will improve your overall physical capacity into a more resilient and badass human.

🔹 This has been a recurring theme I’ve run into recently, and is something we all experience at one point or another - which is normal.

🔹Sometimes it takes a little time or help to overcome that fear. The first step is acknowledging it and talking about it.

🔹 Once we replace fear with 𝙏𝙧𝙪𝙨𝙩 in ourselves, we become more complete.

💥 We all have fear. Myself included. It’s how we approach it that defines us and our lives.

🔺If you’re a lifter/play sports, have ever gotten an MRI/X-ray of the spine, or work in a manual labor occupation, you’ve probably encountered these terms before.

🔸 I’ve been talking to a lot of strength athletes as of late and this is a recurring topic that creates nocebic language/thought processes due to the stigma behind the terms.

💢This post is to clarify that you’re NOT as broken as you may think. I’ve worked with athletes who had presentations consistent with disc pathology, and not only did they make a quick recovery, they were able to maintain performance levels and return to lifting normally with stronger body and mindsets. 💪🏽

💥 DRY NEEDLING 💥

🟢 Dry needling has been a popular recovery intervention in recent years and is utilized by many athletes for things such as muscle pain, tightness, and realigning scar tissue. Other uses for it include: relieving tension headaches, tendinopathy, TMJ dysfunction, and radiculopathy.

🟢 My biases gravitate towards exercise/movement based interventions because I believe that should be the most consistent/focused intervention for long-lasting change. Sessions with me usually involve the main lifts more so than needling. However, will do things such as dry needling, massage, cupping, etc. separately and/or as appropriate.

💥 Recovery is guided by the OVERALL experience. There will never be one intervention that “causes” a result. Humans are not equations where results are predictable because of “x” variable. Recovery is guided by multi-factorial components that correlate into a positive experience. 💥

🔸For a long time, I’ve hesitated on posting exercises with the intent of creating a specific outcome for a couple reasons, because things aren’t that simple in most cases. 🔹Low back pain is often more complex than weak muscles, SI joint out of place, longer leg length, being out of alignment, etc. if a medical provider puts these beliefs into your mind and makes you feel 👎🏽Broken/Brittle/Helpless👎🏽, be suspicious. Low back pain is not solely a musculoskeletal issue.

🔥 Exercise is easy to do/prescribe, so why do people pay others to do it?

💥Some people trust others to know what’s best, some just want some schedule/plan for consistency.

🔹 A title/certification doesn’t make somebody an expert for prescribing exercise. Nor does how a person looks. What makes somebody an expert is the ability to communicate with you to develop the most effective plan for YOU 👈🏽.

🔥 Exercise Prescription is a SKILL. 🔥

🔳 “I thought all you did was soft tissue massage and some of those therapy/mobility exercises with the rubber band and foam roller?”

💥 While the description I gave above may represent some instances, it’s far from properly describing what I actually do.

💥What I actually do is optimize movement and help guide individuals into learning how to use that optimization to establish a higher level of function/performance/fitness. That movement can look like doing bridges in bed to doing 600lb deadlifts. There are many variables to consider in terms of acute/chronic effective dose, recovery, interactions, and when to change it up.

💥 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐌𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 & 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐞𝐭

💭Sometimes it feels like our sense of identity dissolves after an injury, surgery, medical change of status. That identity could be: Athlete, Parent, or even Human.

🔔 I’ve had people de-humanize themselves because they compare how they are at this new point vs. how they were at their prime. I’ve had people tell me life is meaningless now. I’ve had people doped up on every single pain medication out there.

🔸As a Physical Therapist and Strength Coach, I take pride in my ability to offer something a Machine, YouTube, or template/protocol can’t - my humanity.

🚨We all need to understand that life is not black and white. Nor does it stay the same. Life is always changing, and we have the power to make it as substantial as we can ✊🏽.

🚨There’s a huge emphasis on symmetry in our society, but how important & realistic is it?

🔸 In the span of our entire lives, we develop some form of asymmetry whether we are “injured” or not. Being born in itself is a “traumatic” incident as many structures are not fully developed and susceptible to change. Accepting asymmetry as a natural thing is the first step.

🔸If an injury does occur, those structures will never be the same even if we make a full recovery. Scar tissue is placed down, there’s less sensation/strength potential, etc. but, that doesn’t mean we can’t figure out a way to perform a task.

🔥The beauty about the human body is that it ADAPTS. Some call it compensation - usually a negative connotation. However, there are many instances where “compensations” lead to higher function/performance. These “compensations” can also be strengthened.

▫️When determining why symptoms exist, asymmetry is a factor to consider but shouldn’t be the only factor. Answers, especially in science, very rarely have one answer.
