We convince ourselves that alcohol gives us confidence.
What it really does is dull the part of our brain that warns us when we are crossing our own lines.
That is why you might wake up the next day replaying moments in your head that make you wince.

The truth is that alcohol is not creating courage. It is removing caution.
Confidence is not about blurring your boundaries so you can say or do anything.
It is about knowing exactly where those boundaries are and choosing to hold them.

Sobriety does not make you quieter. It makes you braver in a way that lasts.

I am eager to share the launch of a support group in Addison, TX that I have developed and will be facilitating every other Wednesday evening.

Substance use recovery is a personal passion of mine. I sincerely look forward to the opportunity to grow a community of support for those who may feel as though they are currently walking through recovery alone.

Throw that hat on, find some comfy clothes, and give yourself just 15 minutes of fresh air ! Scheduling in a weekly walk has significantly boosted my mood - so much so that I end up walking more than once per week. If you’re unable to walk or don’t have to motivation to do so, sitting outside or in your car with the windows down is a great alternative 🤍

Enabling often feels like we are loving that person unconditionally; however, it’s important to decipher whether we are treating that person with love versus treating their illness with love. When we enable those we love, we are simultaneously keeping them sick. Respect the person, not their illness. .

Maladaptive and unhelpful habits/behaviors manifest when trauma goes unaddressed or unnoticed. The beauty of therapy is the opportunity to learn what parts of our past are subconsciously influencing our current way of life and thought patterns: “Why do the same problems keep happening to me no matter how much I try to change?” With the awareness of our past’s influence on our present, one can learn how to redirect behaviors and thoughts that, at one time, felt automatic and often “part of my personality and who I am.” The more internal knowledge and awareness we have of ourselves, the more power we have over our choices and abilities to live an intentional life.

It can be mind boggling to experience or witness how quickly an eating disorder takes over and becomes the ruler over an individuals life - this cycle continues to worsen as long as the eating disorder is in control of the individual.

I love this reminder before a day like tomorrow. It is so human to experience difficulty in feeling appreciation for parts of life sometimes. I hope you are each able to embrace this holiday with the opportunity to choose gratitude for where you are currently at in your walk of life. 🤎
