It is with a heavy heart that I share with you the passing of my dental assistant of 24 years, Gloria Henderson. As you may know, she had a stroke about a year and a half ago. Today she passed away from a massive stroke. I will miss her laugh that reminded me of warm maple syrup and her beautiful smile.

Dear Patient,

I want to give you an update on the status of our practice. We have appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) now and expect more to arrive in early June. We are opening the practice for elective procedures, but COVID-19 has changed our operating procedures in many ways. We are working with limited staff at this time so, if you call and no one answers, please leave a message and someone will call you back. We are currently scheduling only one person at a time and are following all of the CDC and ADA guidelines to provide care safely to you.

We look forward to seeing you,

Carole Ann Boyd, DDS

Dear Patient,

I want to let you know the current status of our reopening for elective procedures. The written policy of the Administration and the CDC policy list some basic criteria for reopening the country. These criteria are very important for us to follow because the CDC has listed dentistry as extremely high risk because we generate an aerosol that could spread the virus six feet during many procedures we perform.
The criteria include:
1. A 14 day decline in cases
Dallas has yet to see a decrease in cases.
2. Appropriate PPE ( personal protective equipment)
We have a small amount of some of the necessary items. I ordered N-95 masks before the shutdown but was only able to obtain a very small quantity. There are multiple forms of PPE that dentistry has not routinely used in the past that will need to implemented. All items necessary to keep all of us safe in the dental office are on back order and have been since March.
3. Appropriate testing
We do not have testing available to check our status before dental appointments.
4. Contact tracing
Contact tracing is not adequate at this time.

Because of my four and a half years post-doctoral training and experience in infectious diseases, particularly viruses, I feel we must at least have the first two criteria in place to consider reopening for elective procedures. Please know that we are doing everything we can to ensure your visits to our office will be as safe as possible in the future. We still have tele-dentistry visits and emergency care available. Feel free to contact me should you have questions or concerns.

Stay safe and keep others safe,

Carole Ann Boyd, DDS

These are difficult times for all of us. As you may be aware, decisions about reopening the country are at times in conflict with the science of how to best handle this coronavirus. I want to let you know that I will be following the science and not the politics regarding when and how my practice reopens for elective care. My goal is to keep all of us all as safe as possible. We are still available for emergency care and tele-dentistry. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Stay safe and keep others safe,

Carole Ann Boyd, DDS
