3. Myth: Kidney donors need to take medications for life.

Fact: Unlike transplant recipients, kidney donors do not require lifelong medications after donation.

They are generally healthy and can lead normal lives post-donation. After recovery, most donors return to normal activities and lead healthy lives. However, they are advised to avoid medications that can harm kidney function, such as NSAIDs (e.g., Advil, Aleve).

Hi friends, it’s Maria 💚

Myth #2: You have to be young to donate a kidney.
Truth: You don’t! 🙌

Healthy people in their 70s — even 80s or 90s — have successfully donated kidneys.

Each hospital sets its own age limits. For example, UT Southwestern Medical Center allows living kidney donations up to age 65.

Choosing the right transplant center matters. UT Southwestern is one of the top programs in Texas and the U.S., rated “High Performing” by U.S. News & World Report for kidney failure treatment. Their expertise helps ensure great outcomes for both donors and recipients.

Becoming a living donor isn’t just about medicine — it’s about saving a life.
Yours could save mine. 💚

Hi, this is Maria, hope you are doing well today.

There are several myths about being a Live Kidney Donor. The first Myth is that Living Donors will have their health ruined by a kidney transplant. See info below Per PubMed Central:

Interpretation: Where “Myth 1” Fails & What the Evidence Shows

• Myth 1 (“donating a kidney ruins your health”) is too strong — it implies large, inevitable harm to every donor. That conclusion is not supported by the evidence.

• Most donors maintain excellent health, return to normal function, and show no significant differences in life expectancy or general mortality compared to well-screened controls (or normative expectations). Some studies even report a slight survival advantage, though that is likely due to selection bias (donors are healthier to begin with). Annual Reviews+4PubMed Central+4PubMed Central+4

To achieve the best possible outcome from a kidney donation, it is vital to select a transplant hospital with real expertise and excellent outcomes—such as UT Southwestern Medical Center. UT SouthWestern’s Kidney Transplant Program delivers some of the strongest patient outcomes in Texas and the U.S.:

• UT Southwestern is rated “High Performing” by U.S. News & World Report for kidney failure treatment, placing it among the top hospitals nationally for that care. UT Southwestern Medical Center+3UT Southwestern Medical Center+3UT Southwestern+3

I hope this information helps you decide to donate your kidney to me. This will save my life.
