For months, our community has asked the City to install a much-needed street light on Basswood Drive to improve safety, visibility, and peace of mind for our neighbors. After multiple requests went unanswered, Community Movement Builders and local residents decided it was time to take action ourselves.

We are launching this GoFundMe to raise the funds needed to install a safe, reliable street light that will serve the families of Basswood Drive especially our children, elders, and those who walk home in the evenings.

This project is about more than a light.
It’s about community power, neighborhood safety, and showing that when the City moves slow, we move forward together.

Community Movement Builders (CMB) Dallas Chapter is urging the Dallas City Council to take immediate action to update all existing “Lamar” Freeway signs to Botham Jean Blvd, in accordance with the Council’s 2020 decision to rename the street.

Despite the vote to honor Botham Jean a beloved member of the Dallas community whose life was tragically cut short the city has yet to replace the freeway signs five years later. CMB has been in communication with Councilmember Bazaldua, who has expressed support for moving forward with the update.

“Our community deserves to see the city’s commitment to justice and accountability reflected in action, not delay,” said Talissa Shamsid-Deen, a representative of CMB Dallas. “Renaming this street was meant to be a meaningful tribute to Botham Jean’s life and legacy, and it’s time for the city to fulfill that promise.”

Community Movement Builders, a 501(c)(3) organization based in the Highland Hills community, will be speaking at Dallas City Hall soon to address this matter directly.

Community Movement Builders Dallas Chapter stands in support of Patrice Jones
On September 30, 2025, Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker made an
unacceptable and dangerous remark directed at community organizer
Patrice Jones, saying: “Patrice, I still have your casket.”
This statement is reckless, threatening, and completely out of line,
especially coming from someone elected to serve and protect the people
of Fort Worth. Words like this carry weight, and when spoken by those
in power, they can endanger lives.
Patrice Jones is a dedicated community activist who has stood up for
justice and accountability in Fort Worth. Her voice represents the
struggle of many who are fighting against systemic injustice and neglect
in the city. No mayor should ever try to intimidate or silence that.
As Community Movement Builders – Dallas Chapter, we stand in full
solidarity with Patrice Jones. We demand accountability from Mayor
Mattie Parker and call for a public apology for her reckless and harmful
statement.
The people of Fort Worth deserve leadership that listen to the people—
not leadership that makes threats to them
