I love this!
This is why I do what I do.
Pilates is NOT about slim thighs and flat abs. Ok, ok, if that’s a bonus to your Pilates practice then awesome. There’s so much more to Pilates though.
For me Pilates is about moments like these. Look at this amazing woman. Renee agreed to be in one of my online classes where my only goal was to represent a class that I teach daily. I didn’t want to teach anything crazy. I just wanted to show my subscribers the type of session you could expect if you visited me at my studio. I wanted to demonstrate how cueing your students is more important than the number of reps it takes to make them sore. The result…a undeniable example of The Method doing it’s magic.
When we started the session standing with the foam roller along the length of her back Renee was like we all are before a focused Pilates session. She felt stiff, and flexed, and slightly stressed from her day so far. When we finished she was feeling better!!! You can see the transformation in this picture so clearly.
My goal wasn’t to make her sore the next day, or “fix her”…it was to simply pass down the amazing method of Pilates so she could continue on with her daily activities better than if she hadn’t come to Pilates at all.
Let’s step into this week with a fresh outlook on The Pilates Method. Teachers and students: I encourage you to walk into the studio and leave all of your stressors outside. Don’t worry..they will still be there when you’re done.
Teachers…be passionate about your classes. You began teaching Pilates because you loved it. Find that fire again. Students…recognize how your Pilates practice changed how you FEEL when you’re walking out of your studio! All of the other stuff is just icing on the cake!
