This month's People of Dalton is Dr. Jeffeory White of WHITES PEDIATRICS.
Dr. White never planned to stay in Dalton long-term. But now, he emphatically calls it home.
“My choice to come to the Dalton area was indeed a fortuitous one," Dr White explains. "I believe wholly that it was God's intention and His will that led me to Dalton. I can say with all certainty that this was never a plan of mine.”
Dr. White came to Dalton with a simple, one-year plan: practice briefly, then move on to become a pediatric subspecialist in hematology oncology.
In Dr. White's words, "God had other plans. I had not gone into medicine to be a general practitioner in a private practice. I had always intended to be a missionary."
What he describes as a “confluence of events” led him to open a practice here without knowing anyone, without family ties, and simply starting from scratch.
One year became decades. Today, Dr. White serves families across Dalton, Chatsworth, and Calhoun. And he says it clearly: “I can say, emphatically, that Dalton is our home.”
He and his family were drawn to Dalton because he describes it as "a clean air kind of semi-mountainous region, surrounded by mountains all around. It was a small town… It had beautiful countryside and had warm, kind people.”
He saw a place where families could raise children without constant fear. He saw a hospital and community where “those who had and those who had not still were able to not only socialize, but be treated and cared for in the same place.”
One thing he has always admired about Dalton is that “those that had were willing to share with those that did not.”
Not every season was easy, but one thing remained steady: “Amidst all the conflict, amidst all the pain, the desire to serve people… remained utmost in my mind and in my heart.”
In the Chatsworth area, families began calling him “the praying doctor.”
He explains, “I think there's no greater feeling in life than to have others see that one's joy in life is serving God.”
For Dr. White, medicine has never been just about treating illness. Nearly a decade ago, his practice began developing questionnaires to understand families’ needs beyond physical health. With the help of social workers and his staff, they built a foundation to support families through both health crises and social crises.
He may not have planned to come to Dalton, but he stayed and made himself a cornerstone of this community.
Because he stayed, generations of children have been cared for, prayed over, and supported in ways that extend far beyond the exam room.
Thank you, Dr. Jeffeory White, for sharing your story and for investing in the people of Greater Dalton!
