🤍 Today is National Hugging Day 🤍

A hug can offer what words sometimes can't — comfort, love, and presence. Today is a reminder to hold the people who matter most close, to offer reassurance in moments of joy and in times of grief, and to never take those embraces for granted.

Sometimes, the simplest gesture means everything. 🤗

Milton Elroy Smith, age 91, a lifelong resident of Dalton, Georgia, left his earthly body on January 15, 2026, following a brief illness.
Lovingly known as “Red,” Milton was married to his sweetheart, Stella “Pat” Smith, for 52 years.
Red was active throughout his life and devoted his time to many pursuits, including serving as a volunteer fireman, participating in motocross enduro racing, deer hunting, metal detecting, raising a garden, and serving in the Masons. He enjoyed reading, history, and vividly telling stories and jokes. He also greatly appreciated a good home-cooked meal, prepared by his wife almost every day of their marriage. Red worked hard for many years and rose from meager beginnings to owning a business, while still being invested in the pursuits of his children and grandchildren. Post retirement he spent his time teetering around town, reading even more, and watching NASCAR and the Braves. Spunky until the very end, no one is likely to forget him.
He is survived by his daughter, Gail Scott and her husband, Dan, of Greenville, South Carolina, and his son, Adam Smith and wife, Tanya Joines Smith, of Dalton, Georgia. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jordan Pickens, Harrison Scott, Callie Smith, and Maria “Mia” Smith.
Additional survivors include his niece Kimberly Carr of Hixson, Tennessee; nephew Kendall Harkins and wife Donna of Rocky Face, Georgia; and cousins Mary Ellen Parsons and Glenn Bromblett, both of Chatsworth, Georgia.
We wish to extend a special thank you to his loving care givers who served our family well until the very end: Marilyn Calhoun, Tammy Givens, Lalaine Lara, Ashley Love, Gaye McKenzie, Odajah Mitchell, Ana Perez, Victor Romero, Shelena Washington, Chris Barrett, and Seferino Lopez.
Mr. Smith will be interred next to his beloved and near his parents and sister in West Hill Cemetery.
Friends are cordially invited to visit with Mr. Smith's family on Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at Love Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to them that they may then use to bless the caregivers with a gift.
Condolences and messages of sympathy for Mr. Smith's family may be expressed through Love Funeral Home's online guestbook.

Mr. John Milton Mulcahy Jr., age 57, of Loganville, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.
John was born on Sunday, December 8, 1968, in Seoul, South Korea.
As the son of the late Mrs. Mal Soon Mulcahy and the late Mr. John Mulcahy Sr., a physician in the United States Army, John grew up living throughout several different cities as their family followed his father’s military assignments. John spent time in Radcliffe, Kentucky, Charleston, South Carolina, Muncie, Indiana, Cincinnati, Ohio, Smyrna, Georgia, and, most recently, had planted roots with his family in Loganville, Georgia.
John lived a full and vibrant life, with interests and passions that extended to both the arts as well as the sciences. After earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from the University of Louisville, he went on to obtain his Masters Degree in Research Administration from the University of Central Florida. He had successful tenures working for the University of Louisville, the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston Southern University, Ball State University, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, and, most recently, the Morehouse College School of Medicine.
In addition to his ongoing studies and academic work, John loved music. He enjoyed volunteering his time helping local high school band programs, working primarily with the drumlines, as he was a phenomenal drummer. Most recently, he served as an active part of helping with the Loganville High School Marching Band. Outside of school band, John was also an avid fan of Drum Corps International. He also loved the University of Louisville athletics, and proudly supported his Cardinals.
John touched the lives of countless students throughout his career, whether it was through music or academics. He leaves behind a legacy of inspiration, encouragement, and faith.
Most central to John’s life was his faith and his relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was an active member of his church, Corinth Christian Church, in Loganville, Georgia.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. John Mulcahy, Sr., and Mrs. Mal Soon Mulcahy.
John is survived by his loving wife, Mrs. Krista Johns Mulcahy, whom he married on Saturday, May 19, 2007. He is also survived by his son, Mr. John Milton Mulcahy, III, whom he loved and adored more than words can express.

John Russell “Johnny” Ham passed away unexpectedly on January 10 at the age of 69.
John was born on December 7, 1956, in Dalton, Georgia, into a loving family. He was the son of Leon Murrill Ham III and Louise Ham. John is survived by his two sons, Charlie and Luke, and his brother, Skip, and Skip’s wife, Leigh.
John was an amazing father, and his life was devoted to his children, whom he loved dearly. He raised them with unconditional love and taught them many life lessons that they will hold close to their hearts.
He attended the University of Georgia, where he graduated with a marketing degree from the Terry College of Business, and then began a career in the flooring industry. John was a very well-known and much-loved football and baseball coach at Northside Youth Organization and Buckhead Baseball in Atlanta. He taught kids far more than the skills of the game. He taught them to be fair, resilient, hardworking, and—most of all—to have fun.
John had more friends than can be counted. He was magnetic, and people loved being around him. Even through his battle with cancer, he remained positive and maintained an amazing outlook on life.
John was a man of faith. He trusted in the Lord and in His promises.
Besides coaching and watching sports, John was an avid golfer and spent as much time as he could on the golf course. Finally, at age 68, John got his first hole-in-one at The Farm on hole number 5. He knew how to love deeply and how to enjoy life.
A service to celebrate John’s life will be held at ChristChurch Presbyterian in Dalton, Georgia, on Friday, January 16, 2026, at noon. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (pancan.org) or the Northside Youth Organization (nyosports.com).

Theresa (Trecie) Ausmus Batis, age 106, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Sunday, January 11, 2026 at the Regency Park Nursing Home in Dalton.
Trecie was born on February 15, 1919, in Union County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Nancy Collins Ausmus and Jahue Ausmus. She was also preceded in death by siblings Emma Mae McCarty, Milburn Ausmus, Daniel Ausmus, Ed Ausmus, Floyd (Toad) Ausmus, Fred Ausmus, Cecil Taylor, Hazel Haley, Roy Ausmus, Gladys Ausmus, and Horace Ausmus.
She is survived by her sister Retha Anderson of Wadsworth, IL. She is also survived by a host of loving Ausmus family members who loved her deeply.
Trecie was born in Union County Tennessee where, as one of the older of the family's children, she spent her early life helping her mother in caring for and raising her younger siblings. Life was hard for the mountain families in the depression era, but love and companionship sustained the family through those tough years.
In the mid 1930s Trecie’s family left East Tennessee due to the building of Norris Dam on the Clinch River near their home.
In her teenage years, Trecie craved adventure and a better life for herself. This led her and a close friend to move North to Ohio in the mid 1940s to find employment in the war effort. Trecie’s dad told her that she would never make it in the North and she would be back home in 6 months. Trecie proved him wrong by living in Ohio for the next 50 years. In Ohio, Trecie was a true “Rosie the Riveter” story finding employment in a factory where she did jobs such as running a drill press producing vehicle axles for the war effort.
While living in Ohio, Trecie met John Maximillian Batis, the love of her life, and they married in 1961. They settled in Euclid, Ohio where they lived a wonderful life together for 32 years of happy marriage. Trecie, not wanting to work outside the home, had John build her a little styling salon in their basement where she had a small home business as a “beauty operator”. John and Trecie loved to travel. They were particularly fond of cruising, spending time in sunny Florida and making yearly trips to the family home place in Murray County for the Ausmus family reunion. Trecie and John enjoyed their 32 years of marriage until John’s death in 1993.
With John’s passing, Trecie had to evaluate her life from that point forward. At age 75, with no children and few relatives on John’s side of the family, she decided that she would move back to Georgia where she would have the loving Ausmus family to spend her remaining years with. Little did she know that she would spend almost 32 years with that family, living out the blessings of a 106 year lifespan.
Trecie is remembered for her dogged determination and fierce independence. She was also a great friend and travel companion to many of the ladies in her community, a faithful member of the Joy Ladies Sunday School Class at Liberty Baptist Church, and one of the cornerstones of the Ausmus family. She was a great proponent of the Ausmus Family Reunion which began 1947 and will celebrate its 80th gathering later this year.
Services to celebrate the life of Theresa (Trecie) Ausmus Batis will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday January 14, 2026 in the chapel of Love Funeral Home with the Reverend Danny Cochran officiating. The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home from 12:00 PM, Wednesday until the service hour.
The family would like to thank all the staff of the Gardens at Royal Oaks, Regency Park Nursing Home and Hamilton Hospice for their kind and loving care of “Aunt Trecie” during the last few years of her life.
