"This Veterans Day, OrthoConnecticut proudly honors all those who have served our country, especially our own Dr. Edmund Ganal. Dr. Ganal began his journey with a general surgery internship, followed by serving as a battalion surgeon with the Marines during Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq. After completing his orthopedic residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego, he was stationed in Newport, RI, where he deployed to Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom, providing care for combat casualties.

We are deeply grateful for Dr. Ganal’s service and dedication to our nation, and for his continued commitment to caring for his patients. Thank you to all veterans for your courage and sacrifice.

If your joints seem to predict the weather better than the forecast, you’re in good company. Cooler temperatures really do tend to aggravate arthritis symptoms for many people.

Here’s why:

1. Decreasing barometric pressure can cause tissues around joints to expand, leading to pain.
2. Cold temperatures thicken joint fluid, causing stiffness.
3. Damp, humid weather can promote inflammation.
4. Reduced blood flow in the cold makes joints stiff and uncomfortable.

How to manage fall-related arthritis pain:
1. Stay warm with layers and gloves
2. Use heat to ease stiffness and boost circulation
3. Stay active with light exercise
4. Manage stress with relaxation techniques
5. Consult your doctor if symptoms worsen

At OrthoConnecticut, our specialists are here to help you find relief and keep moving comfortably through every season.
