Staying active is important for both your physical and mental health! Some benefits of having an active lifestyle are:⁠

This weeks' SMART New Year Resolutions will focus on helping you live and maintain an active lifestyle!

Building a relationship with activity, especially if you have been a more sedentary type, requires a lot of perseverance, but with support, you will quickly succeed. What do I mean?- Start with the minimum recommendations- 30 minutes of walking or biking, jogging or swimming- 5days per week. From there you can and will add more time and more steps. Before long you and your new active self will have a great relationship blooming.

A part of a non-toxic life is watching what is not only in your diet but what you put on your skin as well. ⁠Let’s face it, our skin is our largest organ, deserving of care and a watchful eye on how to protect it from negative elements that can come from Mother Nature to harsh chemicals or toxins in the water. We are our best selves when we are healthy inside and out and that depends on what we put in our bodies, how we exercise it, and carefully choose the elements and potions that our skin encounters.

While many people use essential oils for their calming and anti-bacterial healing benefits, a quick and easy DIY weekly regimen using frankincense with coconut oil has been found to keep skin hydrated and smooth.⁠ ⁠

This weeks' SMART New Year Resolutions will focus on helping you live a non-toxic lifestyle!⁠

We have all the tips you need to jumpstart your healthy and motivated 2022, but here are the top four:⁠

1. Unwind-Get enough restful sleep⁠

2. Hydration-Drink at least 8-8oz glasses of H2O each day⁠

3. Nutrition-Eat Fruits, vegetables, lean meat, and fish and avoid fats, processed grains, and sugar⁠

4. Activity-Get a minimum of 150 minutes of physical movement and 60 minutes of weight-bearing exercise⁠

When it comes to the holidays we know that avoiding alcohol may be difficult so plan. 🍻

It is well-known that holiday times may include alcohol that can add hundreds of empty calories to one’s daily intake. 🥂

During the season to be jolly have low-calorie options and non-alcoholic alternatives so you don’t miss any fun.🧃

For example, instead of an 8 oz glass of thick and creamy traditional eggnog that has the same number of calories as three glasses of wine or 440 calories, opt for a Hot Toddy, made with ginger, tea, and whiskey at only 130 calories! 🍷

If you are indulging in alcohol, opt for healthier options:

Make a 45 calorie cocktail such as a Holiday Spritzer. You also might consider a Vodka or Gin tonic, both are lower-calorie options.🍹

Our 10th Healthy Holiday Tip is to ..... Drink Lots of Water💧

Staying hydrated is important every day since about 60% of the body is water, but during the holidays it is not always a priority. 🍶

It’s even more important for anyone trying to lose weight to increase their water intake on holidays. ⏱

Drinking lots of water helps you feel full so you don’t stuff yourself full. 🍽

In addition, staying hydrated helps maintain blood levels, improves sleep quality, cognition, and mood.🩸⁠⁠

Next up on our 12 Days of Christmas Healthy Holiday Tips Series is... Control Your Portions🍽

Know the correct portion sizes of different food options and if possible eat your Thanksgiving meal off a smaller plate. 🦃

Don’t go into the social events of the holiday season unprepared and ravenous. 😋

Make sure you have a healthy high protein snack beforehand, and arriving hungry at a holiday get-together makes it that much easier to overeat. 🥚

So be smart:

If you know you will be going to a party and don’t want to spoil your appetite, have a healthy snack to tide you over.

It will help stabilize your blood pressure and keep you full – so you’re less likely to overindulge on all the not-so-healthy stuff later.⁠⁠
