Meditation is a mind and body practice that has a very long history of use for increasing calmness, physical relaxation, improving psychological balance, coping with illness, and enhancing overall health & well-being. The word meditation itself takes its roots in two Latin words: medita (to think) and mederi (to heal). Which is exactly what it is! Meditation is a state of awareness. Like the body needs to rest, as does the mind. Sleep does rest your mind, but sometimes we are so overwhelmed that even in sleep our mind does not get proper rest. This is where meditation can come to benefit. Meditation goes right into the difficult, stressed, or unpleasant areas of the mind, and itโs not trying to find a solution to these problems but to change the mindโs attitude toward them.
If meditation seems like something that could benefit you and your life, take some time today or this week to introduce it into your schedule. A super-easy way to begin practicing this healing art can be to simply put on a Youtube video! There are plenty of guided meditation videos out there that can help you ease into this practice! Remember, there's no right or wrong way to meditate, do what works for you!
