Not all tooth pain starts in the crown. Periapical inflammation occurs at the tip of a tooth’s root when infection spreads beyond the root canal. It is your body’s response to bacteria that have reached the surrounding bone. If left untreated, periapical inflammation can progress to a dental abscess. Early treatment helps prevent more serious complications.
